Argentina: Macri Expected to Push U.S. Policy

The ascent to the presidency of a neoliberal businessman who represents the “new right” emerging in Latin America is sure to have an effect on the country’s foreign relations. Macri has already promised to sanction Venezuela economically with suspension from the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), and is expected to promote United States interests in the country. The President-elect’s attacks on Venezuela have been rejected by social movements and Argentina’s Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Venezuela, which vows to stand up for Latin American unity. Laureano Ponce reports from Buenos Aires for teleSUR.
