New allegations of corruption have surfaced in Guatemala this time inside the nation’s political parties. The accusations come before general elections to be held on September 6. The International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) seeks to investigate nine politicians, including congressmen, mayors and a vice-presidential candidate, linked to money laundering and embezzlement. On the other hand, the leftist URNG Maiz party in the indigenous north flatly denies receiving corrupt funding. teleSUR
