Representatives of Colombia’s insurgent group, the National Liberation Army (ELN), met with its larger counterpart, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in Havana on Monday. The ELN has recently responded positively to a call to negotiate an end to their struggle against the Colombian government, just as the FARC has been doing for two years. President Juan Manuel Santos confirmed that a top leader of the FARC Rodrigo Londoño, known by the alias “Tymoshenko,” has met with ELN, Nicolas Bautista, alias “Gabino.” Government negotiator Humberto de la Calles said that as of yet, the leaders have not participated in discussion tables together, but that their meeting in Havana was a positive step in the peace process, which should involve the ELN.
