Britain's royal baby named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana

Britain’s new princess has been named as Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, Kensington Palace said on its Twitter account on Monday.

The daughter of Prince William and his wife Kate will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, the palace said.

After spending a couple of nights in London, the duke and duchess travelled to their country mansion on the Queen’s Sandringham estate in the east of England.

Some reports suggest the royal couple did not wish to divulge the name of the new princess until after the Queen was told.

The birth of the new baby was marked earlier today (May 4) with a Royal baby Gun Salute at London’s Hyde Park.
