Local Heroes Shine on Day 2 of the Upper Austria Grand Prix in Linz

Day 2 of the Upper Austria Grand Prix delivered thrilling action in Linz. Rafaela Silva, Ethan Nairne, Michaela Polleres and Adilet Almat secured gold medals. The home crowd celebrated Polleres’ dramatic golden score victory as fans enjoyed another spectacular day of judo.

00:00Welcome back to Upper Austria.
00:04The Tips Arena Linz was electric, as fans from across the nation gathered to watch both
00:09local and international stars take to the tatami on day two of the Judo Grand Prix.
00:16The stage was set for another incredible day of Judo.
00:19At under 63kg, both Rafaela Silva of Brazil and Laura Fasliu of Kosovo looked unstoppable
00:26during the preliminaries.
00:30In the final, however, there could be only one winner.
00:33In a clash of two champions, a yuko score from Silva saw her take the gold.
00:39The medals were presented by International Judo Federation Sport Director Ms. Hedvig Karakas.
00:45At under 73kg, Ethan Nairn of Great Britain met Bilal Siloglu of Turquia in the final.
00:52Nairn worked hard throughout the day to reach his first-ever Grand Prix Final, with his
00:57sights set on gold.
00:59An osso togari and a yuko score gave Nairn his first-ever Grand Prix gold medal.
01:07Yeah, it just feels amazing.
01:09I always knew that I was capable of performing at this level.
01:13This didn't happen overnight.
01:14I had to lose, lose, lose, learn, and yeah, I went for all of that so I could win today.
01:21His medal was awarded by International Judo Federation Medical Commission Chair Dr.
01:26Antonio Castro.
01:27The under 70kg final saw local hero, Michaela Polares of Austria, against April-Lynn Fuhu
01:33of Switzerland.
01:37With the fight going into golden score, the fans were on the edge of their seats, and an
01:42incredible change of direction from Polares caught her opponent and sent the crowd wild.
02:02She received her medal from Austrian Judo Federation President Dr. Martin Poyger.
02:11In the under 81kg final, Adilet Almat of Kazakhstan met Vusel Galandazadeh of Azerbaijan.
02:20Almat was on top form today with some incredible scores, and just one more fight stood between
02:26him and gold.
02:27A wonderfully timed sumo-geishi from Almat directly into a hold-down secured him a submission
02:34and the gold medal.
02:40The medals were awarded by International Judo Federation Referee Supervisor, Mr. Mathieu Bataille.
