Colombia: Huge March Slated in Support of Peace Process
  • 9 years ago
Tens of thousands of Colombians are expected to march in the country's capital today in a mammoth demonstration in support of the peace process. The march will also commemorate the 67th anniversary of the death of Liberal Party politician Jorge Elecer Gaitan. Many feel that had Gaitan not been assassinated, the country might have been spared the five decade civil war. Since 2001, April 9, the anniversary of Gaitan's assassination, has been designated National Day of Memory and Solidarity with the victims of the country's armed conflict.
