Today our personable host Andy Sebastia, himself a jazz percussionist, interviews Ecuadorian singer María José Tejada and French guitarist Donald Regnier about their formation as musicians, significant moments in their career as a duo, the way they work together as marriage partners and what it’s like to be musicians in Ecuador today. One of María’s early influences was Ella Fitzgerald whereas Donald listened to a wide variety of music from his father’s record collection before playing in a marching band as a young soldier. Upon meeting in France, where Maria lived for ten years, they began to combine their musical gifts and have continued to do so in Ecuador, where they have been particularly attracted to Afro-Ecuadorian music and are constantly experimenting with new arrangements. teleSUR
