00:00In Bolivia, the court of El Alto anode the ordinary criminal trial against Yanin Añez
00:05for the Sencata massacre, deciding that she should face a trial of responsibility due
00:09to her status as a former president.
00:11The judicial decision responds to a motion of exception of incompetence filed by Añez's
00:16defense, which requested a trial of responsibility since the events of 2019 occurred while she
00:21was serving as the country's president.
00:23The government and the prosecution have stated that since she was not a constitutional president,
00:29she was not entitled to a privileged trial.
00:31However, the court declared itself incompetent to try Yanin's but clarified that the decision
00:37does not imply impunity, rather it refers to the proper courts of the process.
00:41Decision sparked protests from the victims of the Sencata massacre and led to the interruption
00:45of the hearing with victims denouncing the judges' actions and pointing out that they
00:49accepted the ordinary justice process in order to achieve the conviction of those they consider
00:54responsible for the killings.
