Early Thursday morning, thousands of members of labor unions and social movements in cities across Venezuela came out against recent U.S. provocations and sanctions, as Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez denounced plans for a U.S. economic and trade blockade. The environmental group Friends of the Earth were also in the streets, calling on the United States to stop meddling in Venezuela's affairs. The head of the U.S. Southern Command John Kelly denied involvement in coup plans, but did not rule out the possibility, while Members of the European Parliament passed a resolution criticizing Venezuela with no mention of human rights violations against the Latin American country. Support for Venezuelan sovereignty has come from the regional Bolivarian Alliance, ALBA, now meeting in Caracas, while Ecuador's Foreign Minister has announced an emergency meeting of the United Nations of South America (UNASUR) this Saturday.
