Grim jobs picture in Portugal

Portugal’s unemployment rate rose in November to 13.9 percent of the working population. It was 13.6 percent in October.

Portugal had enjoyed seven consecutive months of declining jobless totals hitting a low of 13.3 percent in September.

Still the November number is down on the same month in 2013 .. when it was 15.4 percent.

Youth unemployment is particularly bad with the rate rising from 33.3 percent in October to 34.5 percent in November.

The total number of unemployed rose to 713,700 people in November from 696,300 in October, the National Statistics Institute said.
