ENCORE! - Amos Gitai: Divisive and admired
  • 10 years ago
His work spans more than 40 years and includes over 80 films. On today’s show we’re joined by Israeli artist Amos Gitai, whose work is featured in two Paris galleries. Divisive and admired, he explores contrasting poles: documentary and fiction, the personal and the universal, love and war. But throughout his films, theatre work and photography he keeps coming back to one subject matter: Israel and the disunity that perennially plagues his homeland.
He tells us about the traumatic event that spurred him to give up his architecture studies and become a filmmaker, and how his films show that Palestinians and Israelis can live together peacefully but that art cannot change reality.
