00:00Cheeky charming chimney sweep from Mary Poppins with his infamous Mockney accent.
00:06At 92, Dick Van Dyke had lost nothing of his panache in Mary Poppins Returns,
00:12the act of first-graced Broadway in 1959.
00:16Early stage performances soon gave way to television and film,
00:19a CBS sitcom called The Dick Van Dyke Show in which he played a comedy screenwriter.
00:24The show won 15 Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes in its five-year run.
00:29But Dick Van Dyke and his signature smile never turned their back on musicals,
00:34playing Burt and Mr Dawes Sr. in Mary Poppins or the inventor in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
00:40Keep clear!
00:43And, more recently, he starred in the Christmas film Buttons.
00:47In 1993, he launched Diagnosis Murder, in which his son co-starred.
00:53The series ran until 2001.
00:54He has since made a range of cameo appearances
00:57and won a Kennedy Centre honour for his long and varied career.
01:01When asked what he hoped to be remembered for, he was proud of his longevity.
01:05For laughter, I hope for making people laugh for 75 years.
01:12I've been in the business 75 years.
01:14I can't believe it, that I'm still here and performing.
01:18I'm looking for work, if anybody's in.
01:25It seems Chris Martin heard the call,
01:27as Van Dyke was then the star of the music video for All My Love,
01:31a heartfelt tribute to the actor's life.
01:34Whether it rains, it remains.
01:43You've got all my love.
01:45I hope I know.
