00:14that eventually signified its intention to expand its operations in the country.
00:19A $200 million investment that includes a couple thousand jobs for Filipinos has been assured
00:25and is in the works as we hear in this story.
00:31Apart from addressing the United Nations General Assembly,
00:34President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr. was also busy with private meetings
00:38related to strengthening investments in the Philippines.
00:41One of the companies the president met with was the U.S. Medical Glove Company, or USMGC.
00:46The company plans to expand its operations in the country,
00:49which could open around 2,000 job opportunities for Filipinos.
00:53According to the president, the company is estimated to invest an initial amount of $200 million.
00:59This is going to be to our advantage because we will have supply,
01:04not only for the health care workers, but also for the military, but also for all of the needs.
01:10And I hope that if the manufacturing is really good, we will be able to export it.
01:17The president remains confident that other countries, especially the United Nations,
01:22recognize the Philippines' strong record, particularly in terms of economy and investment,
01:26even as the country faces challenges caused by the unrest in the Middle East.

02:05During his meeting with American investors, he urged them to put in and grow their money in the country.
02:10He said the Philippines is ready and open for investors.
02:14The government is also ensuring the continued improvement of the investment climate in the country.
02:18According to the president, the Philippines is an option for investors because of its skilled,
02:23adaptable, and English-speaking workforce,
02:25as well as the continued improvement of the country's infrastructure.
02:29He encouraged investors to look for opportunities
02:31and reminded them of having an investment partner in the Philippines.
02:35Meanwhile, the president also met with officials from the United States defense sector
02:39to discuss steps to accelerate and strengthen defense ties between the Philippines and the United States.
02:44The discussion included efforts to enhance deterrence in the Indo-Pacific
02:48and improve the interoperability of the armed forces of the Philippines and the U.S. military
02:53through joint operations such as the Balikatan exercises, which begin next month.
02:58Both sides also reaffirmed their mutual commitments to the Mutual Defense Treaty
03:02and their continued cooperation for a stable and secure Indo-Pacific region.
