00:00The Department of Transportation, or DOTR, is reconsidering a pending fare hike petition
00:05to ensure that it would not add to the public's burden.
00:08According to DOTR Secretary Giovanni Lopez,
00:11he has returned the initial recommendation to the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board,
00:17or the LTFRB, for further review and recomputation of the data related to the proposed fare increase
00:23requested by several transport groups.
00:25The Secretary emphasized that the government must exercise caution in making such a decision
00:30as a fare increase could trigger a domino effect, leading to higher prices of goods and services.
00:37He added that fare hikes are often followed by rising inflation, which is directly felt by the public.
00:43The DOTR is expected to release a decision regarding a provisional fare increase next week.
