Choosing the right career path is one of the most important decisions for a mechanical engineer, especially if you aim to work in Design or R&D. Many engineers get stuck in low-paying CAD roles without real product design exposure, leading to frustration and limited growth.

In this video, I’ll introduce my new series “Essential Skills for Mechanical Engineers”, where we’ll explore different career roles you can pursue—such as Robotics, Plastics, Automotive, and more—and the exact skills you need to land your dream job.

✅ What you’ll learn in this video:

Why choosing the right career path early is crucial

The gap between CAD training and real R&D work

Career opportunities for Mechanical Design & R&D engineers

How to prepare for interviews as a fresher

The correct approach to build your dream career

If you’re a student, fresher, or working professional looking to transition into Mechanical Design or R&D, this series is made for you. 🚀

00:00Chosing the right career is very important for a mechanical engineer, especially if you
00:11wish to work in design and R&D. This is because once you enter a certain domain, it becomes
00:19very difficult to switch into a car as each domain demands different set of knowledge
00:27of subjects, softwares, principles, as well as design considerations and guidelines.
00:36It has been almost a decade since design training centers in India have been pushing engineers
00:44into service industry roles which focus mostly on Kagmastery. Though they have been promised
00:53to have a lucrative role in research and development, most of these engineers are actually engaged
00:59in treating modeling corporations without getting any hands-on experience on the design
01:06or development of products. Not being able to get expertise from their domain, these engineers
01:14continue to work at the lower end of the pay scale, giving mechanical engineering a bad reputation.
01:22To solve this knowledge gap issue, I have started a video series called Essential Skills for Mechanical
01:30Engineers. In this series, I will be talking about different career roles that a mechanical design or
01:38R&D engineering can start with and everything you need to know in order to grab an interview for the sale.
01:48Whether you should become a robotics mechanical engineer, plastic product designer or an automotive designer
01:56purely depends upon your interests as each of these tools have ample amount of scope and weaknesses.
02:06You just need to have the current approach to get into them. Hope you will join me on the journey of designing your dream career.
