00:00I'm here outside the American consulate in Edinburgh with a very special guest today, Melania Trump.

00:04Hello.

00:05Hi Melania, what are you doing here today?

00:07I am here because my husband is not.

00:10So you didn't fancy joining him in Aberdeenshire?

00:12No, no, no, no. I don't need to watch him swing his clubs and try to put his whatever into as many holes as possible.

00:19Fair enough. So today outside the consulate, are you going to visit some of your compatriots?

00:24No, I am here to protest. The demonic show, Laura Benanti, Nobody Cares.

00:28This woman, she makes fun of me all the time on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

00:32Do I deserve it? Of course. But is it nice? No.

00:35So I don't ban people to go and I'm waiting for the other protesters to show up.

00:40I've been waiting for four hours. I'm sure they'll be here at any minute.

00:44So, Laura Benanti, you want her show cancelled?

00:48Cancelled.

00:49Completely.

00:49And of course, you are Laura Benanti and you are one of the best known Melania Trump impersonators

00:54who has been on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which has unfortunately recently been cancelled.

00:59Yes. I started doing this impression in 2017 after her famously plagiarized Michelle Obama speech

01:08at the Republican National Convention. I had never been a satirist before.

01:13So, and now I've been doing it for nine years. So it's pretty crazy. Yeah.

01:18And the Late Show, which is such an iconic, you know, show in America, one of the most iconic,

01:25they cancelled it. It got cancelled. So, and I wonder why.

01:29And obviously it must be quite an interesting time to be a Melania Trump impersonator.

01:33Well, it always has been. I mean, if I'm being honest, it always has been.

01:36I had a lot of people threaten me when I started doing it.

01:40Talk, you know, threaten my children.

01:41It's really a divisive time in our country where somehow cruelty is at, you know, the forefront

01:49waving its flag, our flag, which, you know, it's sad to me that now if I see an American flag,

01:56I assume that that person is a lunatic. And I don't want that. You know, I want to be proud

02:02of my country and I'm not.

02:04And your show here at the Fringe is starting soon.
