In Eritrea, a group of soldiers have surrounded the ministry of information building in the capital, Asmara. They are calling for the release of political prisoners, and not, at this stage, the overthrow of the government, known as one of Africa's most secretive. State TV was off air for several hours but was broadcasting again by the evening.
