Judges in The Hague started on Tuesday to hear a case brought by Dutch politician Geert Wilders, who wants the Netherlands to be banned giving money to the EU's bailout fund for troubled eurozone governments.
The firebrand MP's lawyer argued that the Netherlands' €40 billion contributions should be postponed until after national elections in September.
A judgement is expected on June 1.
