Most of us would be repulsed by the sight of cow urine, but there are some who find it to be quite beneficial.

Centuries old Indian Ayurvedic treatments have gone mainstream these days. So why not cow urine?

According to the Cow Protection Department in India, yes there's such an organization,
cow urine detoxifies the body and they claim it can can cure certain illnesses including cancer. And don't think they are taking this lightly as they had even planned to sell it in the form of a flavored beverage as an alternative to sodas and juices.

Some data indicates it may contain anti-microbial properties, but there is no shortage of doctors in agreement that the claim is without scientific basis.

Or is it? To ease the effects of menopause, women consumed the urine of pregnant mares to the tune of over a billion dollars for pharmaceutical giant Pfizer in 2011. Perhaps tablet form is easier to swallow!

A study by the Birsa Agricultural University showed when chickens were fed cow urine they
produced eggs with a harder shell and more egg white. No word on what the chickens thought of this diet.

18th century European artists used a pigment known as Indian yellow believed to contain urine from cows fed on mango leaves which are apparently toxic. Fairly certain the cows weren’t too happy about this either.

Perhaps at the end of a farm day, this product is best left where it belongs – in the pasture.
