A silver certificate dollar bill from a borough resident — one of the barbers on the ill-fated Titanic — will be among the dozens of items put up for auction beginning Thursday. The bill — signed and inscribed by Augustus H. Weikman after he was picked up in the icy waters of the North Atlantic after the ocean liner went down in 1912 — will be sold to the highest bidder during RR Auction's 100th Anniversary Titanic Auction. "This note was in Weikman's pocket when he was fished out of the sea by the SS Carpathia," said Bobby Livingston, vice president of RR Auction in Amherst, N.H. "It's an incredible artifact by the head barber of the Titanic."
The online auction will begin at 9:30 a.m. and run through April 26 at the company's website, http://www.rrauction.com/
