00:00Welcome back to From the South.
00:02Poland began two days of national mourning after six people were killed on Saturday in
00:07a mass shooting at the main square of the historic city of Krakow.
00:11The incident shocked a country that has prided itself on being safer than many of its Western
00:18European neighbours and deepened public concern following a string of school stabbings in October
00:27that officials linked to extremist content online.
00:31According to local authorities, 16 people were wounded in the attack, including two police
00:36officers and a 24-year-old Polish man suspected of being the gunman who is in critical condition.
00:44A British citizen was identified as one of the dead, while five foreign nationals from
00:50Austria, Germany, Portugal, Russia and Britain were among the wounded.
00:54The gunman's possible motives are still under investigation.
01:04No, never.
01:05I was just talking to my friends a couple of weeks ago that they should come here.
01:09It's one of the safest places on earth.
01:11Genuinely.
01:12So, no, I did not expect anything like this to happen to us.
01:16What happened?
01:16Oh, I'm absolutely devastated.
01:18Our city will never be the same after what happened yesterday.
01:22But as a Polish person, you know, I'm very proud of how it was dealt with.
01:33Of course, we hear about various situations of this kind somber in Europe or in the world.
01:38And it's always terrifying.
01:40The fact that it happened here in Krakow is simply unbelievable for us.
01:44It's hard to believe that something like this could have happened here.
01:47What happened here...
01:48What happened here...
01:49So I am my son...
01:49I'm from with Akashvatia now in Krakow.
