00:20Protesters are demanding that the government urgently clean up the contaminated sites and
00:26impose an immediate nationwide temporary ban on waste imports.
00:30Europol says Croatian suspects organised the illegal import of hazardous waste from Italy,
00:36Slovenia and Germany.
00:38In this context, the government has selected a contractor to remove about 4,500 tonnes of
00:44hazardous material but a much larger amount of some 33,000 tonnes buried on the ground
00:50still awaits a solution.
01:02They're talking about this as if it's a tragedy, as if it's something that just happened
01:08out of nowhere.
01:10This is not a tragedy that just happened, this was planned, someone was paid to do it, someone
01:18else was paid to look the other way.
01:20This is not a tragedy, this is crime.
01:27Citizens have undoubtedly been pointing out the problem and reporting suspicions of illegal
01:31activities since 2023.
01:33Since 2024, we have had the first analysis showing that it was hazardous waste.
01:39An investigation was launched in 2025.
01:41The result to date, not a single kilogram of hazardous waste has been removed from Gospik.
01:51We are asking the government to change its approach to this problem.
01:54Until recently, we were being told that there was no need for urgency or immediate action.
01:59Finally, we have received recognition that all the institutions have in fact been working
02:03too slowly and inadequately.
02:04We have been promised that the process will be accelerated.
02:07We are asking to be informed, within about 20 days, of the exact rehabilitation plan, including
02:12deadlines, methods and costs.
