UST defeats FEU

The University of Santo Tomas snapped its 3-game skid and pumped life to its UAAP Season 89 men's basketball Final Four bid after nipping Far Eastern University, 86-85, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, November 8.

Amiel Acido fired 23 points including back-to-back treys that gave the Growling Tigers an 86-82 lead in the last 1:12.

UST hung on for the remainder of the contest, only giving up a Jorick Bautista trey at the last second that delivered the final count.

Acido added three rebounds for the Tigers who growled to 5-6 for a share of fifth place with the Ateneo Blue Eagles.

The Tamaraws dropped to 6-5 for a share of third place with the De La Salle Green Archers.

00:00First of all, we'd like to thank Father Rector and Father Rodel.
00:04At last, happy birthday.
00:06And the support of the community of USD,
00:11I know they were not expecting us to be 4-6, but they're still here.
00:17So we're so thankful for the support before anything else.
00:21These two guys, they played their hearts out.
00:25Mga shooter eh.
00:28They don't want to shoot enough.
00:30So me and Miel and me and this guy, I'm just telling you to shoot.
00:33This guy has a minimum of 8 shots per game.
00:363 points out.
00:36But it's a bad shot.
00:38But it's okay.
00:41First and foremost, I'd like to give my all glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
00:46And you know, it's just the ground, you know.
00:49The start of the second round didn't go our way.
00:50But it's just how you respond when you're in the doghouse.
00:53And how you battle back when you face adversity.
00:55So you're already gonna quit or you're gonna respond.
00:58And that's what we have in the locker room.
01:00And that's what we did.
01:01And that's what we're trending towards the rest of the second round and heading into the playoffs.
01:07So, for me, we have to take one game at a time.
01:12Because for the past games, we were struggling.
01:17But as I said, it's how we come back.
01:23So, you know that we're struggling again.
01:26So, you know, in the past games, we were up seven and we lost.
01:42We were down seven in regulation and we were up by two.
01:52We hit a three-point back shot that broke our hearts.
01:56But the thing is that, like they said, we don't quit.
02:00If you look at our practices, they became harder, they became more intense, they became more focused more than anything.
02:07And that's the spirit that we want to have to continue.
02:11Even if we win the last three games, aren't we assured we're not.
02:17So we just want to finish one game at a time.
02:20We know that UE already has won, so we're not afraid.
02:23We're going to start preparing for UE tomorrow.
02:30Like they said, we're going to get one game at a time.
02:41.
02:45.
