00:01Hi Frank, can you have your assessment of that please?
00:05Disappointed to lose lots of the parts of our performance I liked,
00:09specifically up to our goal and probably up until their first goal.
00:13Goals are obviously crucial but played with personality,
00:16moved the rule well, got hold of the game.
00:18We started really well and then Everton had a rally
00:20and we got a tiny bit sloppy but then we grabbed it back.
00:23We started competing like Everton always will
00:24but we also had a comfort in where we were playing
00:27and I really liked it.
00:29Obviously to sit after a 3-1 defeat feels difficult.
00:33They scored two goals in five minutes.
00:35I think one goal is really contentious
00:37and then the third goal is not good from us.
00:40I was quite pleased with the performance
00:42but of course you want to win football matches
00:44so we have to be on ourselves about the details
00:47that maybe didn't go away in a footballing sense.
00:50I think there were three VAR referrals there.
00:53I don't know if you've had a chance to have a look at any of them in depth
00:56but do you feel on another day one of them might be on your way?
01:00Oh yeah, I mean it's for sure.
01:03I have looked at them because sometimes you're emotions
01:06and in the moment you can't be clear on the sidelines
01:09but I think, you know,
01:10Taki pulls on Caleb's hair, they're saying it's not enough of a pull.
01:13I think that's a hard area to be in.
01:14What is a hair point? It's not.
01:16You've decided it is but it's not enough.
01:19I think Toewoo, for me, on the line of the box is a penalty.
01:23I mean, you've got to give the foul in real time anyway.
01:25The ref didn't let it go
01:26but I thought that was a penalty by the time Mikko's knee is in the back of Toewoo's knee
01:31on the line of the box and then the barrier one's handball.
01:35I've heard that it's apparently saying he didn't touch his hand
01:37but I've seen an angle where he's flicked it in with a final touch.
01:41VAR's there for that.
01:42So nothing went for us tonight in that sense.
01:45Well played Everton, well done.
01:47They win the game and we knew it would be a tough match
01:48but if three decisions that are that big,
01:51I can't sit and go, I know everything
01:53and they should give all three of them
01:54but those three, if one or two don't go away
01:57and they would clearly change the game.
02:00I know you'll go away and probably be uber critical of it tonight.
02:03Do you feel that the boys let the game get away from them a little bit?
02:09I think it's easy said.
02:11I think it's easy said.
02:12I understand that.
02:13But I think at 1-0, I think we had a couple of transitions
02:15where if we get our pass right, we may be going to make it 2-0
02:18and we've got that bit wrong.
02:19And I know this place, I know I never worked in this stadium
02:22but I know the momentum thing of Everton fans and how it goes
02:25and you can feel the stadium understanding that we were playing well,
02:28they were finding it hard to press us and how we were playing
02:32and break us down really.
02:35But then Barry, been very good this season,
02:37scores at the back post which we know he likes to do.
02:39Disappointing from us.
02:40As I say, I don't think the second goal is a goal
02:43and at that point the momentum changes is hard to grab back
02:45and it can happen in football matches.
02:46But yeah, we look back and say those are the moments.
02:49What should we do? Just sit back and tighten up.
02:51Difficult. The game became transitional.
02:53You've just got to deal with that transition better.
02:55Last one from me. Obviously Bobby and Frank weren't here tonight.
02:58You're hoping to have them back for the resumption?
03:00Yeah.
03:01Yeah.
03:05Hi Frank.
03:06Hi.
03:07Did you get any clarity at all?
03:09I saw you talking to Sam Barrett, the fourth official,
03:11just before the second half started and you went like that.
03:14Obviously talking about the hair pull.
03:16Have you managed to get any clarification from the officials at all?
03:18No, I was only told in an interview just now that it was a hair pull,
03:22but not enough of a hair pull.
03:25I love Taki, but if they say it's a hair pull, for me it's a hair pull.
03:29That's how I felt and the fourth official was sort of staying away from the detail.
03:34He was actually fine, he was chatting, but I didn't get any detail on the sideline.
03:38Obviously the rules were relaxed for this season.
03:41Do they need more clarity again now?
03:44No, I think the rules are fine.
03:46I think it's not a red card.
03:47I kind of get that.
03:47I kind of get that because I think in a game of football there's a lot of stuff happens
03:50that it's not like an absolute dramatic.
03:52I think that's, you know, that can happen.
03:54But I think if the rule remains that it's a foul.
03:58So, I thought it was a foul.
04:00But just going back, because it was such a positive opening 50 minutes for you guys,
04:05you know, as you said, sort of those personalities.
04:07I thought you were quite controlled.
04:09You know, you were confident on the ball especially as well.
04:13You know, just going forward, being able to take what you can from a defeat.
04:17There's still a lot to be positive about, despite all the frustration.
04:20Yeah, yeah, and I said that to the players because I try and be honest with them
04:24and if I don't feel the performance is what we are,
04:27Fulham two weeks ago, then I'll say it, they played well.
04:30And, of course, the goals detect the game.
04:32Got to get little details right.
04:33But the way they're playing with personality and the progression
04:37from the first weeks where we went to Arsenal and it was like,
04:40this is the Premier League.
04:41Now we're going and playing more like a Premier League team.
04:44And this is a team with half the players with real lack of experience
04:47and another half of the team coming in to try and settle into the groups.
04:51I'm seeing progression from the work, but we want to get results with that.
04:54And I think at this point we've got some results,
04:56but we're showing that we've got enough here if we keep working
04:58and keep improving and doing all the right things.
05:00And a little less than a Premier League football, right?
05:02You can control the game for 50 plus minutes,
05:06but they have clinical players in their team that can score like that.
05:09And we need to get those bits right as well in both boxes
05:11because there's such a clear effect on the game.
05:21Hi, Frank.
05:22You mentioned, you know, playing as a Premier League team.
05:26Of course, last season in the championship, your team had a lot of possession.
05:30One of the highest averaging teams in possession last season.
05:33But today you had a lot of possession again.
05:35Did that surprise you how much Everton gave you the ball?
05:39I thought we may get some possession here because, you know,
05:44I believe in the way we want to play.
05:46I want them to have their confidence to do it.
05:48But I felt that the reason that they may be struggling to really impress us
05:52because things that we like to do well, we did well.
05:54I think we took their wingers back with our full backs
05:57so they can't get the players jumping so much on us.
05:59And Steph's really comfortable on the ball.
06:02Ethan, we try and make it big.
06:03And we had our two midfield players come down,
06:06but it's really hard for them to get to us.
06:07So, fair play.
06:08I think they kind of went, OK, that's difficult.
06:11So, I think it was probably a testament to what we did.
06:14But, you know, we want to be clinical right at the other end.
06:16I don't want to just play pretty patterns in our own half,
06:18but I like the way we played.
06:21Maybe can we make more of that?
06:23Can we be more clinical and get up the pitch
06:25and not just have that sort of control and do more with it?
06:28Possibly.
06:29But I was pleased with it.
06:31And I don't think the goals we conceded other than the third,
06:33which is disappointing, that they didn't come from us.
06:36You know, opening out and being expansive, we're not that team.
06:39We try and be effective in the way we played.
06:41I thought we were really effective last week
06:42and I thought we were relatively effective for the game tonight.
06:45We just, the deciding factors didn't go for us
06:50or we didn't get right.
06:52Any more?
06:54No, thanks guys.
06:54No, thanks everybody.
