She finally tracked down his previous owner, but wasn't sure she'd get to keep him. Turns out Foxfire had another name, another home, and a very specific taste in music. Dodo editor Tarang shares how Sophie discovered where her parrot came from, and why his former owner was happy to let him stay right where he was.

00:00She said, that was my bird.
00:01And I was like, OK, prove it.
00:05And she said, does he like that song, Hypnotize, the rap song?
00:10I think it's a Biggie song.
00:11I played the song and immediately he's
00:14like dancing and singing to it.
00:16Sophie never imagined having any pets in her life.
00:18But one day, Foxfire landed on her shoulder.
00:21And ever since then, this little guy
00:23has completely changed her life.
00:25Good morning.
00:26I didn't even know these birds existed before he showed up.
00:29He's kind of helped me look at life so differently now.
00:31The hard thing would be if he wasn't here.
00:33Foxfire has been part of lives for over a year now.
00:36But there's still one question left unanswered.
00:39Where did he come from?
00:41He lived so deep in the middle of nowhere.
00:43I was working so hard to find his owners.
00:46There was absolutely nothing.
00:47Nobody was looking for him.
00:48Then about a year later, Sophie connected
00:50with the Bird Sanctuary owner by chance,
00:52who claimed that Foxfire was hers.
00:55Now, Sophie has heard this plenty of times before,
00:57but something felt different.
00:59She said that was my bird.
01:01And I was like, OK, prove it.
01:04She went back into her pictures.
01:06And when I saw the code that was on the band,
01:09I just fell to my knees.
01:11I was like, oh, my God, it's him.
01:13She was like, I have spent so many nights crying,
01:17wondering what happened to him.
01:18He said his name was Sonny.
01:20I pictured him in a horrible situation.
01:22But the reality was she had given him this really sweet life.
01:27The woman tells Sophie that she was going through a very difficult time
01:30and unfortunately had to rehome Foxfire.
01:32And Foxfire flew off from the person she rehomed him to.
01:35I'm sure that that was a really tough decision.
01:38The scariest question was like, well, are you going to want him back?
01:41But she told me, it sounds like he's found a home where he's really loved.
01:45And you should keep him.
01:46But please send me updates on him from time to time.
01:49I was like, I can definitely do that.
01:52It like healed a part of me that was like really heartbroken for Foxfire.
01:56Having him choose us and be here with us every single day
02:01feels like the greatest gift.
02:03What's so great about this story is that both families have the peace
02:07knowing that Foxfire had always been loved
02:09and will continue to be loved for the rest of his life.
02:20in the world,
02:21we are going to have to be loved and have to wait
02:24so they can't continue to be loved for the rest of the day.
02:25What else would you like to stop?
