00:02It's the race that stops the territory, or at least a few people in a top-end pub.
00:06Welcome to Barrie Springs Tavern for our Melbourne Cup and Croc racing.
00:12Barrie Springs Tavern, 40 minutes south of Darwin, comes alive every Cup Day for an event even the owner didn't
00:18know existed when he bought the place two years ago.
00:21It was a bit of a surprise the first year, but I think I've got the hang of it now.
00:24Yeah, it's definitely a big day.
00:26For long-time patrons like Chappie, the occasion always proves eventful.
00:31One actually got out and like a run around the pub here and I caught him out.
00:34Many travelled from far and wide this year to tick the croc races off their bucket lists.
00:39So I've planned my journey out. I've come from Manchester, England.
00:44It's a long telly and so we'll come and have a look and have a crack.
00:47The crocodiles here today, like this one's scrapper, are from Crocodilus Park in Darwin
00:52and handler Tyson says they love coming out to the event every year.
00:56They see my ugly face every day. The fact they come in and see hundreds of different people,
01:01even different fashion designs, they're just processing everything.
01:04It's a really good experience for the crocodile and they get to learn what we are and what we do.
01:08Even the NT Chief Minister made the trek out for the event, backing the winner Croc Run D.
01:13But that was where her luck ended.
01:18And if you run out of luck at the Crocs, in nearby Noonamar, you can always bet on the frog
01:23races.
