Rufus Zuphall — Weiß Der Teufel… 1970 (Germany, Krautrock-Prog Folk)

The band was formed in 1969 in the city of Aachen (in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia). From the very beginning, the musicians sought to incorporate elements of blues, folk, classical music, and hard rock into their repertoire. Their breakthrough to a wider audience came during a performance at the jazz festival in Bilzen, Belgium, in 1970, in front of a crowd of 30,000 people. To their own surprise, the group—which was still amateur at the time—found themselves sharing the stage with such major acts from England as Black Sabbath, May Blitz, and Cat Stevens. Rufus Zuphall’s sound proved so compelling that they earned a reputation as the festival’s "biggest surprise." The band’s significance to the European progressive scene is further underscored by the fact that, during their tours in the Netherlands, they shared the stage with groups such as Golden Earring, Group 1850, Livin’ Blues, and Cuby & The Blizzards, among others.
