In January 2023, Elsie had sadly passed away from bladder cancer. And I had taken it really hard. I wanted a way to make something positive come from it though, and I felt like her passing gave room for a new cat to come who needed a home. So I came across Oscar online looking at different cats at shelters. Oscar was 10+ years old (it said 10 on the site, but I think it wasn%9t updated, and he was actually around 12). His previous owner had passed away, and the shelter employee said that tuxedo cats (like black cats) were less likely to get adopted, along with older cats. So we took him in.
He was greasy and dandruff-y and enormous, a 17-pound cat. The Ginger thought Elsie%9s old crate would be fine because we hadn%9t met him in person yet, but we found out he wouldn%9t fit in her crate (she was 15 pounds but short, lol). So the shelter gave us a bigger crate.
He adjusted pretty quickly; after the first day, he felt at home. He was super sweet and loved to push his head against you continuously as part of being affectionate. He had a low %Cmaow%D meow he would make.
Unfortunately, he seemed to have an ongoing urinary problem (and peed outside the litter box) from before we even got him, that the vet never addressed thoroughly even after my taking him in for more checkups, and he ended up passing away from kidney failure.
But we had a wonderful year with him, and I%9m so glad we were able to give him a loving home in his last year. RIP, Oscar, we miss you. %D%C
