How To Wear Sweatpants To Everything

If weâre being frank, sweatpants have gotten a bum rap through the years. They were ubiquitous in college land when Cheetos and Red Bull substantiated as dinner and 4 a.m. was an appropriate bedtime. But, even then, we knew sporting them anywhere beyond campus grounds was a major faux pas. Now, this cozy staple has somehow wiggled its way into the fashion world â and we're loving it. Cute and comfortable? Really, what more could a girl want from a pant?   Watch above as senior style editor Annie Georgia Greenberg shows three ways to sport this underdog of a trend without looking like she just rolled out of bed. From model-off-duty casual to a fancy getup meant for a night out, she tackles it all â and doesn't even break a sweat.

00:03Hi I'm Annie, senior style editor of Refinery29. If it were up to me, we could wear sweatpants

00:07every day of the week. And while that might not be possible, I'm going to show you three

00:11creative ways to work them into your wardrobe.

00:23These sweatpants from Old Navy are perfect because they have a little bit of detailing

00:27so you can wear them out of the house. I love the black waistband and cinched bottoms.

00:30Sweatpants aren't inherently made for lounging, but we're going to take that up just a little

00:33bit with a casual outfit you can wear outside the house. I'm going to gravitate towards the

00:37t-shirt section and find one with a fun graphic print, layer up with a chambray shirt, and

00:41complete the look with a pair of slide-on sneaks.

00:48So I decided to start with the most casual look and work my way up. This outfit is super

00:52comfortable. I love the idea of pairing a graphic t-shirt with sweatpants that you could wear

00:56outside of the house and a layer over top tied around the waist just in case it gets cold.

01:00I've also paired it with slip-on sneakers because you could just throw them on and run out the door.

01:06So now that we've done something super casual, I'm going to take it up just a little bit.

01:09I'm going to go for a button-down, top it off with a super comfy coat, and I think I'll

01:14try a heel.

01:19I think the plaid button-down and the sweatpants worked out nicely since the sweatpants kind of sub in for

01:23a trouser

01:24since the rest of the outfit is pretty dressy.

01:26I like the idea of doing a button-down, a jacket, and heels, and then you get to sneak in

01:30a comfortable pant.

01:33For the last look, I'm going to try a nighttime outfit with sweatpants.

01:36I'm going to do this by layering up over top.

01:38I'll use this sheer tunic, and for shoes, I'll go for something strappy.

01:46So this last look obviously takes the sweatpants up a notch, and I love it because I would totally wear

01:51this out,

01:51and I'm so comfortable.

01:52The idea is to layer a sheer tunic over top.

01:55This one's great because there's a crop top built in,

01:57but you can totally iterate by doing your own crop top in a sheer layer.

02:00Just make sure to pair it with fancy heels and jewelry.
