00:00Hi I'm Nora. Hi I'm Nicolette and today we're giving up our cell phone for three
00:05days. I've done a phone detox before but I had an iPad so this time I won't be
00:13using any mobile device. I rely on my phone to look up public transportation
00:19and order Ubers. Uber. I use my phone every day when I'm bored like every
00:25second so. To have that time freed up it's gonna be very interesting it's like
00:30what am I gonna do you know? You need to get a fidget spinner. I'm going camping
00:36this weekend so I need to get a compass. I still don't even know how to use the
00:40compass on my phone. Ready for this? I'm ready. The damage is done. Start the timer.
00:51It's my first morning waking up without my cell phone warm. There's nothing to
00:56snooze but I woke up on time. This morning was kind of crazy. I usually leave around
01:028.45 to get to the bus and the bus comes at 8.55. I left at like 8.48
01:07and that was
01:08from checking the clock on the oven. I didn't have my phone so there's no way
01:11of confirming that time. Besides that so far I've reached for my phone three times.
01:16Day number one is over. I had to wait for my first bus for 25 minutes. I didn't have
01:23music, podcasts, or social media to keep me company. Hey so it is now 10.38. I mean I
01:31just came home, cooked, watched dishes, talked with roommates, and watched TV. These are
01:37things I wouldn't normally be doing if I came home and I had my phone in my
01:42possession. I don't feel weird without it. It just it's just something that I use to
01:47fill in the time in between doing things like that. It seems like my mornings are
01:53the most affected by it and I don't realize how much I depend on time and my
02:01phone to record time passage. It's 10 o'clock and I'm hungry. Alright let me do
02:06Uber Eats. So I pulled it up in the computer, logged in, and the first thing they
02:10asked me was oh put in the verification code from your phone. I swear in that
02:15moment I was just like oh all I gotta do is peek. Let me just peek. Nah I was like
02:20you
02:20know what let me cause a challenge. Anyways only 24 hours.
02:25So I'm back from camping and I totally cheated but you guys I needed to take
02:34pictures. I got my phones off again now. I think personally I enjoy not being as
02:41readily available. I think we have this obligatory requirement to be connected to
02:47our phones. I don't believe in this constant need for connection anyways so
02:52this is like the perfect challenge for me. Having spent the past 48 hours without
02:58self-service made me remember how much I enjoy being by myself. You don't need a
03:05phone to be happy and to have fun. Guess who has her phone again? I have very mixed
03:16feelings about this. I don't want to be multitasking so much anymore now that I've
03:23seen the other side. That's it. That's the end of the challenge. It hasn't really
03:27tripped me up. It hasn't been the worst but I kind of can't wait to like hold my
03:33phone, use it. This connection we have is weird. I'm already disappointed in how
03:38quickly I return to my old ways. I learned that it's hard to fully relax when you're
03:46constantly on or checking your phone. You could just sit on the bus and listen to
03:53music or look outside or think or read. I realized how much I take for granted
03:59having a little device that can do or answer anything for me. Thank you for
04:04watching and see you next time.
