00:00I am the friend.
00:01If you're having a kickback, a little get-together, I'm coming in with five-inch wedges, wedge
00:06sneakers.
00:07I literally don't go anywhere without heels.
00:11Hi, my name is Nikki, and for this Try This Challenge, I'll be highlighting my biggest
00:14insecurity.
00:15Hi, I'm Malene.
00:16I do not typically wear makeup beyond a little bit of mascara and a little bit of eyeliner.
00:22Sometimes lipstick if I'm feeling special.
00:24I am 4'11", and according to New York standards, I'm a legal midget.
00:27My biggest insecurity is my height.
00:29I don't quite feel like I look my age.
00:31I get asked a lot, how old am I?
00:34Obviously, you're just not going to grow.
00:35You're forever going to be short, so it's something you hear all the time.
00:39Can you even get on the rides at Disney World?
00:42I want to explore whether trying to be the media's image of the perfect, sexy 20-year-old
00:47makes me happier or not.
00:49I'll be wearing flats for the next three days.
00:51I really want people to learn from this challenge that whether you've got a glam girl inside
00:54of you or you're the girl next door.
00:56If you want to change up your style, you can, but also embrace who you are.
01:02So, stay one of the try this challenge.
01:04I need at least a little height.
01:06I have a happy hour later with a coworker, and who goes to happy hour without heels?
01:10It's like...
01:13I'm going to use this eyeshadow palette my mom got me for Christmas and has been pretty
01:18much unused since then.
01:20Since it's my first time doing this, I chose a color that's basically in my skin tone, so
01:25I don't even know if it's going to be visible in the daylight.
01:28It's going like any other day except for the fact that everyone is telling me how small
01:32I am.
01:32They're like, oh my god, I didn't realize you were so small.
01:35Because I don't wear makeup often, I don't think of like, I didn't know you should put
01:39your clothes on and then put the makeup on, so I have lipstick on my favorite white shirt.
01:46It's really interesting how many times someone can walk up to you and say, oh my god, you're
01:51so small, or why?
01:52I didn't realize how small you are.
01:54It's just like, okay.
01:56I just don't understand why as human beings we're so conditioned to call out someone's
02:01shortcomings.
02:02Pun intended.
02:03Pun intended.
02:03You don't really think about these things until you're forced to confront them.
02:09All the cute shoes have heels.
02:10What do you want me to do?
02:11I put on makeup today, which is something I don't usually do.
02:14I do think it maybe helped me to seem a little bit more my age, but for day two, I'm
02:18not
02:19like nervous about the challenge continuing or anything like that.
02:23I'm kind of excited for it.
02:24Maybe I'll wear lip gloss tomorrow, not lipstick.
02:26I hear it's a little bit lighter, so we'll see what happens.
02:30So day two, another day of flats, which is really annoying.
02:33These are the yellow flats I'm wearing.
02:35This is the shoes I would prefer to be wearing.
02:38It's day two of the try of this challenge.
02:41Yesterday, the most enjoyable part of the challenge was probably seeing my eyes a little
02:45bit shadowy and glittery and things like that.
02:47So today I'm going to try a more adventurous color.
02:49I'm on my way to the gym and as we saw earlier, I had on a long dress.
02:53Flats and long dress do not go together.
02:56I was tripping and falling all over the subway, up the stairs, down the stairs.
03:00Moral of the story, flats with the devil.
03:02Tonight with all the makeup on my face, even with washing and stuff, it's still like kind
03:06of there.
03:07So there is a do kind of concerns me.
03:09So I'm going to go scrub my face a bit more.
03:11I didn't get too many reactions from people.
03:13This flat thing, I need my cup of tea.
03:17Like I just want my heels back.
03:19It's also very frustrating to hear people correlate my height to my personality.
03:24You know, those things, oh, you're so small.
03:27So you make up for it with your big personality.
03:30Day three and I'm done.
03:33It's day three of the try of this challenge.
03:35I am excited.
03:37The makeup seems to be going okay.
03:39And I was confident enough to wear this shirt that's more revealing than anything I would
03:43normally wear to school work anywhere with like totally beach material.
03:47But my glasses are wearing it so it's okay for me too too.
03:50So it's the last day of the try this challenge of your biggest insecurity and I'm over it.
03:57It's not that bad having to wear flats, but it's annoying to hear everyone's comments
04:02like, oh my god, you're so small.
04:05Duh.
04:06The challenge today has been that I work in an office.
04:08The more revealing shirt has not gotten me the kind of treatment that I usually get.
04:12So I put on a sweater and I feel much more comfortable this way.
04:17It's never too late to confront your insecurities.
04:20But at the end of the day, you know, we were all created the way we were created.
04:23And we should embrace and love ourselves no matter what because there's never going to be another you or another
04:31me.
04:32And there's always going to be positive and negative to anything in life.
04:36But trust me, I am going back to my heels pronto.
04:40I kind of do like looking this way.
04:42The extra attention is kind of nice.
04:44I'm kind of glad that I got challenged to this.
04:46Otherwise, I wouldn't have learned that about myself that like, hey, like you like to look nice just for you.
04:51And it's okay that there's no special event going along to it or anything like that.
04:54I'm definitely going to go back to my makeup free, maybe a little bit of eyeliner jeans and t-shirt
05:01wearing ways.
05:02But I've learned something in this whole process.
05:04I didn't regret it and I thank you for watching.
05:06Bye.
05:07Thanks guys.
05:08Peace out.
