Transcript
00:00Reed Moreno, the director of The Handmaid's Tale, a fan favorite for this season.
00:04Thank you so much for joining us.
00:05Thanks for having me.
00:06So I would love to know, this is such a crazy, intense, layered show.
00:09What do you hope people will take away from The Handmaid's Tale?
00:12I just hope they take away the fact that you have to be active and have a voice.
00:17Otherwise, some things you might not be interested in happening might happen.
00:22That's all.
00:23Great.
00:24So how important do you think it is to have women directors in Hollywood
00:27to have that representation and perspective?
00:30I mean, I think it's just as important as anything.
00:32I mean, for me, I do think that women have a bit of a different perspective,
00:36but I also feel like women are just filmmakers.
00:38Everybody's a filmmaker, and even from woman to woman, the perspective is different.
00:42So you're just limiting yourself if you block out the entire majority of the population and their stories.
00:49I love that.
00:50So we're all on pins and needles for season two of Handmaid's Tale.
00:52What can you tell us about what to expect for that season?
00:56What to expect for the next season?
00:59I've heard that there's going to be some action in the colonies, which is very exciting.
01:05But I can't really say much else.
01:07All right.
01:08Awesome.
01:09So one last question for you.
01:11Let's talk a little bit.
01:12Before you go on set, before you direct a big episode, what is your personal mantra?
01:17How do you psych yourself up for that?
01:19I mean, there's just so much preparation that goes into it, so you don't even really, like, I think it's
01:23no psychic needed.
01:25I mean, you're working on it for weeks beforehand and, in some cases, months.
01:30So on this particular job, Lizzie, Moss, and I would text a lot in the mornings before we arrived on
01:37set and remind each other of what we wanted to do with the day and what the scenes that we
01:43had.
01:43And that was really, really psychosome.
01:46Was there any consistent text you guys would send back and forth?
01:49Was there one consistent text you guys would send back and forth?
01:52One theme?
01:54Elevate.
01:55Oh, I love that.
01:57We're big on that at Refinery29, so we'll take that.
02:00Yeah, so much great inspiration.
02:01Well, have so much fun tonight.
02:02And we are fingers crossed for Handmaid's Tale.
02:04Thanks.
02:05Congrats again.
02:05Thanks, Talaka.
