00:00Literally five pages in, I was like, I just, I was watching the movie in my head.
00:09And, you know, when you read these women rise up out the grasses, I wanted to shoot that.
00:15I wanted to be the one that got to shoot that.
00:17And, I mean, the interesting thing is after the old guard, that was two years of my life.
00:23And I had to shoot in London.
00:25So I was away, and I literally said that I promised I'm going to take a break.
00:33And then the script came, and I read it, and I was like, this is everything I've been dreaming about doing as a filmmaker from when I first started.
00:42Like, I knew this is where I wanted to go, even though Hollywood didn't understand that we could do this type of film.
00:50But I said, I was like, damn, I really want to do this.
00:53But I made this promise, and I can't.
00:56But I sent it to my husband, Reggie Rock, anyway.
00:59And I remember he read it immediately, and I got this text and said, this is your next movie.
01:05Which was really dope, because I wouldn't have done it, given the promise that I made.
01:12But the fact that he saw how important this film was in the same way that I did.
01:16And it just, every page was a gift.
01:19Every moment was a gift.
01:20And, like, I've never lost that feeling that I felt that first time I read it.
01:26As a director, like, I'm about to go on this journey with you.
01:31Trust is the absolute most important thing.
01:34Building that trust is me showing up.
01:37Them knowing I'm going to be there for them, with them, got their back.
01:40And I knew, going in, how hard that training was going to be.
01:45Because, you know, I'm an athlete, so I know they didn't know.
01:50And wanted to be there for them through it.
01:54And also, I knew that it was such a great way for them to build their characters.
01:58To understand who these warriors were.
01:59These real-life warriors.
02:01To be able to just embody them in the right way.
02:03But I will be honest.
02:06Once prep started, you know, they had to keep doing those five-hour-a-day workouts.
02:11And I had to go make the movie.
