00:00I'm Elisa Kreisinger, and I'm here at the premiere of Battle of the Sexes,
00:03where Emma Stone plays the tennis great Billie Jean King.
00:06Now, the movie centers on Billie Jean King's iconic story and fight for equal pay.
00:11Sound familiar? Yeah.
00:12A lot of women still have to deal with this shit, even though it's 2017.
00:16So, why are men so threatened by successful women?
00:19We're gonna ask these celebs and see if we can find out.
00:25You've got a great line in the film where you say,
00:27we just want a little bit of what you got, and that's what you can't stand.
00:30Why do you think it's so hard for men in leadership positions
00:32to accept women who are great at their jobs, who are successful, who are really powerful?
00:37I don't know. That's a hard questioning answer.
00:39Hollywood's still run by old white guys.
00:42Sports are run by old white guys.
00:44You know, that's why.
00:45This country's run by out-of-touch old white guys.
00:49And we've got to get rid of them, girls.
00:51Oppression is always fear-based.
00:53It's always people feeling threatened and people scared of change
00:57and people scared of the unknown and things that are new.
01:01I remember when Gwyneth Paltrow named her kid Apple
01:03and just turned the whole world upside down,
01:06and now it's like, yeah, that's a beautiful name, Apple.
01:08You just get used to shit.
01:09I faced certain things when I was just starting out as an artist.
01:12I remember making my first record and feeling like
01:17my voice wasn't the loudest one in the room,
01:19and I was having to remind people, wait, I'm the artist here, I have an opinion.
01:24It's a challenge of tradition and the way things have always been,
01:27and people like those things because they make them feel comfortable
01:29and they make them feel powerful, and maybe you're not that powerful,
01:32and that shouldn't be that scary, but it is to some people.
01:34I think powerful women are intimidating, you know, and...
01:40But we better get used to it.
01:41I mean, you know, look, men have been in charge for a long time,
01:47and it's going to take a while for all of us to get used to sharing the stage.
01:52And I can say from experience, it's a good thing.
01:54I've also worked with some really incredible men who are totally like,
01:57yes, ambitious women rock!
01:59I hope more and more we can have the conversation and move the needle forward
02:02and come to a place of, it doesn't matter what gender you are,
02:06it doesn't matter what race you are, it doesn't matter what your sexuality is,
02:08everyone is absolutely equal, that's humanity, and that's just the truth.
