00:00You know, you could have given me all the love in the world,
00:02it still didn't mean that I knew how to take advantage of that and embrace that,
00:07or also how to be grateful for that.
00:09Well, those were tough years. I mean, we saw the change in you,
00:13but we thought, oh, she's just being a teenager. This is what teenagers do.
00:17It's your senior year. You turned 21 in December.
00:21What's on your mind? What are you concerned about?
00:24I'm just really trying to figure out what I'm doing
00:28in life. I mean, there's a lot of things, my mental health and relationships.
00:36I cannot even imagine the work that you've done while being a student.
00:40How do you balance? How do you maintain harmony in your relationships?
00:43Sometimes it's like I feel like I'm hanging by a thread. I really do.
00:48But, you know, I just remind myself that my education is going to get me
00:54to all these different places that I want to be. Being a teenager is so challenging.
01:01And, you know, it really brought me back a lot of the time to those things that I struggled with,
01:06and feeling like I couldn't talk to you.
01:09What I've always been struck by is, like, how communicative you've been.
01:13But when you were younger, those were the toughest years.
01:15I just wanted to argue all the time and find any reason to start something.
01:23But it was also my own challenges. You know, because if you're used to feeling hopeless
01:28and sad all the time, then I just felt like that was the way it was going to be.
01:33Why even bother talking about it?
01:35Everyone says, this is what teenagers do. You know, they withdraw, they play live music.
01:41They start wearing clothes that you may not like.
01:45You were in your goth period.
01:47I remember that.
01:49I feel very hopeful, and I feel like anything that happens, I'm going to work through it.
01:53And so people are honestly just happy, and people will say, like,
01:57oh, you know, I struggled with this, my mom struggled with that.
02:01If you had one piece of advice for someone who's going through the kinds of struggles
02:06that you've been going through, what would it be?
02:09Don't settle for where you're at, that nothing's going to change unless you make it change.
02:15Look for those people that are going to support you.
02:18Those relationships built on honesty are going to be the ones that are going to change you for the better.
02:22Oh, I want to say something I'm proud of you for first.
02:25No, we first. All right, you go first.
02:28I'm proud of you for not only being my rock in the personal sense,
02:38but, like, also going out and helping people like me.
02:41I'm proud of you for finding ways to help both your own child
02:47and also all these other people out there who you've never even met.
02:52I want to hug you.
02:57I'm so proud of you.
02:58I'm proud of you.
03:00Why are you proud of me?
03:01I'm proud of you for taking your life in your own hands and working.
03:05I mean, it's hard.
03:06I know it's so hard when you're not feeling good to reach out and to get up out of bed
03:12and to go to therapy.
