00:00People really do believe that it's appropriate to say to a woman, if you want to be taken
00:04seriously, you can't try to look your best or invest in your appearance.
00:11My name is Francesca Ramsey.
00:13I make videos on the internet about race and pop culture, and I try to use comedy to tackle
00:19all those difficult subjects that we're not always very comfortable talking about.
00:23My natural eyelashes are very short, but I love how a full, long lash looks.
00:31They're just so glamorous, and even when I feel like you blink, it's like a little extra
00:37sexy blink.
00:38I feel completely naked without my eyebrows penciled in.
00:42Once someone did them for me, I thought, where has this been all my life?
00:47It's so interesting to me how more enhanced lips has become like a thing.
00:52Historically, black women have been told that our big lips are ugly.
00:57I love wearing different lip colors, taking pride in the fact that I have something naturally
01:01that people spend a lot of money to emulate.
01:05But I do think it's important to really analyze why certain things are trendy or more acceptable
01:12now that weren't acceptable five or ten years ago.
01:15It shouldn't be at the expense of women of color who aren't seen as beautiful based on
01:22these unrealistic standards that we're not going to fit unless we change who we are.
01:27The goal should be to take what you already have and work with that to enhance the things
01:32that you like instead of trying to completely change how you look.
