00:01Hey everyone, it's Taylor from Refinery29. Today I'm going to show you how to create a faux bob.
00:06So you can switch up your style without the commitment of cutting your hair.
00:12The first step to creating the faux bob is to create volume and texture at the crown of the head.
00:16So I'm going to do that by backcombing the hair and using a volumizing hairspray.
00:25I'm just going to pick the hair up in sections and spray the hairspray up underneath it.
00:32Then with the hair up, we're going to take our brush and sort of backcomb it a little bit
00:38just to create a lot of this texture up towards the roots.
00:41I'm going to do that all the way around the head.
00:58Once we've created the volume of the crown of the head,
01:00we're going to go in to create a little bit of grit and texture towards the ends of the strands.
01:04I'm going to do that by using a men's pomade.
01:06So I'm going in with the Iron Society Old Fashioned Men's Grooming Aid.
01:10This is a pomade that's going to add some shine to the tips as well as give a lot of
01:13texture.
01:15Now because this pomade is really intense, you only want to pick up a little bit of it
01:18on the ends of your fingertips.
01:23Then we're going to go in and actually scrunch the ends of the hair with the pomade on our fingers.
01:37I do this by just grabbing sections of the hair and just rubbing it between my fingertips.
01:44And now we're ready to pin up the hair.
01:45So the first step for creating a faux bob is to gather the hair in a really, really low ponytail,
01:50leaving only a couple of inches out at the end.
01:57Don't worry about any of the loose pieces that are falling out,
01:59because we're going to use those to create the bob.
02:05So once we've done the ponytail, we're actually going to curl it up into itself
02:08at the nape of the neck and pin it.
02:28So once you've secured the end of the ponytail into the base of your head,
02:31you're going to go and pick out any longer pieces that are sort of hanging out
02:34and don't need to be there.
02:35Any loose ends, you just want to tuck up with a bobby pin,
02:40leaving a few longer pieces in the front.
02:43And voila!
02:43And there you have a super simple bob.
02:46No scissors necessary.
