Austin, TX is full of character, culture, food, music, and people that encompass the lot. Plus, it‘s a notoriously large city with many different people. Of course, finding the person to share your interests with is rare no matter where you live. But if you‘re lucky enough to live in this temperate city, you get to explore all the life Austin has to offer with that someone special. Refinery29 and DPA followed around these three southern couples to capture what makes their relationship truly special and where they like to spend time in their favorite city.

00:10We got a Texas boy over here, and I was born and raised in New York City.
00:13I had never had sushi, and Rachel had never had casein.
00:20When we started dating, I was just quick-paced, go, go, go.
00:23Never wanted to wait for anything, moving on, moving on, moving on.
00:27And the way he processed things and worked through things.
00:31So slow!
00:34The Texas dancing was the thing that really got me.
00:39I had never been led on the dance floor by a gentleman, and he knew what he was doing.
00:47A big part of our relationship has been learning how to grow and listen.
01:00For me, singing has always been a therapeutic thing.
01:03What's up, everybody? How y'all doing tonight?
01:08As a full-time musician, I perform maybe two to three times a week.
01:12It's a really beautiful feeling to get on a stage and to be appreciated and accepted and desired for what
01:17it is that you bring to the table.
01:19I just get up there and live in the moment.
01:21When I'm there and I see people enjoying her, it makes me feel good.
01:30Music keeps us, like, tight.
01:35Austin is the live music capital of the world.
01:38It's also one of the fittest cities in the U.S.
01:41We love working out together.
01:42I can't say that I know everything about the gym, but I know he does, so I go with him
01:47and he tells me what to do.
01:48This is Shoreline Church. This is the first time I actually laid my eyes on my wife.
01:53He was always on the big screen. He just had a really fun personality. He was really outgoing.
01:58When we first started dating, I would invite her to coffee shops.
02:02It was my way of playing it safe, not really committing.
02:07It wasn't like one time. It was like two, three, I think it was four times.
02:11So I got to a point where I was like, okay, I'm totally in the friend zone.
02:15He's probably not interested in me that way at all.
02:18And I guess like the fifth time we hung out, he actually called and said, hey, can I take you
02:23on a date?
02:24I totally thought we were just coffee buddies.
02:26There's no wrong with coffee buddies.
02:35Relationships can be a lot of work. We've always kept it real with one another.
02:38When she's wrong, I let her know she's wrong. We keep it real for real. We don't bite our tongues.
02:43I found someone special, someone who's rare. And I knew then that I needed to not let her go.
02:52From the moment we wake up to the moment the kids are in bed, every moment is, to me, intense
02:59and real.
03:00Commitment for us is that we are on the same team. And that's something that you remind me of. It's
03:05such a fun day.
03:06A relationship takes being with somebody you actually like.
03:10You're not always going to feel like you're in love with somebody.
03:13But if you can at least like them at the end of every day, you know, that right there is
03:16a step.
03:17And I like this person. She's a lot of fun and I like her.
03:21All right.
