00:02My name is Vera Romero and my artist in residence is called Take Up Space.
00:08I never really thought of myself as an artist when I was growing up. I'm not
00:15that good at drawing. Maybe the stuff that I make is more utilitarian versus
00:20just like fine art. Definitely being able to develop a voice, an aesthetic, even
00:28though it's something that's always changing I don't feel like it will ever
00:30get to a point where this is who I am as an artist. There's different things about
00:35my process that manifest in different ways. There's something about being
00:39physical that's so satisfying and soothing and can be super cathartic. But of
00:45course the digital world can give you access to things that you might not be
00:49able to do in the physical world. Like sometimes I feel limited about my skills
00:53or my experience that digitally I can expand on. I sometimes make art very
01:01purposely and sometimes I make art very impulsively. It's a mix of both.
01:08Art is therapeutic. Anyone who wants to do it should be able to do it. It shouldn't
01:14be a high-class thing that only certain people have access to.
