00:00Open, shake, mix. Open, shake, mix. Open, shake. Wait, I was going to harmonize with you.
00:04Okay.
00:06Hey guys, I'm Lucy. And I'm Hannah.
00:08And this is Test Lab, where we try out the internet's wackiest trends so that you don't have to.
00:13Unless we think that you should.
00:14Which we do.
00:15Today, we're going to be trying out DIY makeup bronzer.
00:18We've seen DIY beauty trends all over the internet these days.
00:21Actually, Refinery29 has done a ton of DIY makeups, but we actually haven't done DIY bronzer yet.
00:27And it's summer time, so why not try it out and kick it off with some DIY cocoa bronzer.
00:33But I'm excited to put chocolate on my face.
00:34Same. Let's get our coats on and let's go.
00:40Science is sweet. Like this, Hershey's 100% natural cocoa powder.
00:48Oh my god.
00:49The first thing we need is 100% natural unsweetened cocoa powder rich with antioxidants, zinc, calcium, and iron.
00:57Seriously?
00:58Yeah, I'm 100% serious.
01:00The next thing we'll need is a 91% isopropyl alcohol.
01:03This is in case we want to make a pressed powder.
01:05We're actually going to be making one pressed powder and one loose powder.
01:09Next up, make sure you have a compact handy that's already been used.
01:12This is where we're going to store our cocoa bronzer.
01:14Next, we have baby powder.
01:16This is going to change the pigment of the cocoa powder depending on your skin tone.
01:19And last but not least because I know how fun you are.
01:23I got glitter in case you want to add a little extra shimmer into your bronzer.
01:26I love shimmer.
01:27Knew it.
01:28Let's roll our sleeves up and get bronzing.
01:31And one more thing.
01:32Let's put our goggles on our head because we're getting marks.
01:35Oh my god.
01:38Here's one spoon for eating and one spoon for scooping.
01:41Perfect.
01:43So I'm just going to put some powder into this to kind of mix up the consistency, make it very
01:47soft.
01:48And then we're each going to spoon our own amounts into our separate ramekins
01:52and add some more powder for pigmentation depending on how light we want to go.
01:56Um, Anne?
01:58Can I have a little help here?
01:59Thanks.
02:01I'm going to scoop in a little bit.
02:02This is for our loose powder.
02:03Alright, I don't know about you but I'm extremely fair and this is going to be way too dark for
02:08me.
02:09Yeah.
02:09So I'm going to go ahead and add a lot more baby powder.
02:14Alright, I'm going to do a quick swatch test on my arm.
02:16So I've got my brush here, dipping in.
02:21Tapping it off.
02:24And here it goes.
02:28Look at that.
02:29It's bronzing up my inner arm.
02:31So one of the things that I'm really noticing about it,
02:33and I don't know if it's maybe because we're just like,
02:36lacking in an ingredient or like a chemical that is in normal makeup products,
02:41is that it's really sticking to the little, um, the pores in my skin where my hair is growing.
02:47Wow, it's actually coming out quite nice.
02:50Oh, look.
02:52It's really bronzing up my cheek.
02:54Wow!
02:55It's time to add in some of that isopropyl alcohol to make pressed powder.
02:59And here's where our glitter is going to come in handy.
03:02So we're going to throw these things in, and once it's fully mixed together,
03:05we're going to pack it into those compacts that I told you about earlier.
03:08And technically, this should sit in the freezer overnight to harden and dry out.
03:12So you go first, but make sure not to add too much alcohol off the bat.
03:16You can keep adding if it's not thick enough, but add and stir.
03:22Mix.
03:23So you want the consistency to feel a little bit like mud or clay before it goes into your compact.
03:29That way it's really easy to mold into the shape that you need it to be.
03:32So I'm going to scoop it out with my spoon and pop it right onto the compact.
03:40And then just use my lovely fingers to press it in and shape it.
03:45And now it's time to let it harden.
03:47So instead of sitting here and waiting for those to chill,
03:50we actually put two of those bronzers in the freezer last night,
03:53so they're ready to test out right now.
03:55Ready, Han?
03:56Ready.
04:02Oh, it's cold.
04:04Yeah.
04:05It's so cold.
04:06And it actually, I mean, it's got a similar, it's definitely,
04:09I feel like this is a little bit more pigmented.
04:11I like this.
04:12I really do.
04:14I would prefer to use the loose powder.
04:16I actually thought that it gave me a lot more freedom to put it wherever I wanted
04:19and it didn't clump up as much.
04:21So I actually felt a little bit the opposite.
04:23I preferred the compact, the frozen compact,
04:26because clearly I can't be trusted with loose powder.
04:29All in all, I say this was a very successful test lab.
04:32We both loved the different versions of bronzers
04:35and this is something we would try again.
04:36Thank you so much for watching and we'll see you next time on Test Lab.
