00:00Nigeria's stock market lost $206 billion last week, but it's still up nearly 59% this year.
00:06So what's happening? Imagine something you own rising in value for a month,
00:10then dropping in a week. You would want to know if it's a temporary
00:13deep or a sign of something bigger. That's the question facing the Nigerian stock market.
00:18Last week, 55 stocks fell while only 20 gained. Insurance stocks dropped 2.8% and oil and gas
00:25fell 2.55% while industrial goods gained 1.95%. Also, the values of shares traded rose 12.81%
00:35even as the market lost value. Meanwhile, the number of deals fell 6.23%.
00:41More money was involved in share transactions despite fewer deals. But these figures alone
00:46don't tell us why investors were buying or selling. So, should investors panic? Not necessarily.
00:51A weak decline doesn't erase the market's gains thus yet.
