NASA’s October 23, 2026 report said Swift’s science mission ended after its final observation on October 20. At about 275 km, atmospheric drag prevented steady telescope pointing. Swift entered safe mode, and operators sent the command ending science operations. At that report, Swift was still in orbit, with re-entry expected within weeks. Its archived observations remain available for new discoveries.
