A Delhi Pollution Control Committee report shows water contamination levels across the Yamuna River, with biochemical oxygen demand rising from two milligrams per litre at Palla to 30 milligrams per litre at ISBT Bridge and faecal coliform bacteria counts reaching 35,000 MPN per 100 millilitres. Toxic froth continues to coat stretches around Kalindi Kunj due to untreated sewage and waste immersion. Meanwhile, air quality index data indicates that 24 of the 25 most polluted cities globally are in India. In policy developments, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways amended Rule 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, formally recognising E100 fuel for compatible flex-fuel vehicles. In political developments, Bharatiya Janata Party President Nitin Nabin and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led a pad yatra in Chandni Chowk, addressing voter list revisions ahead of an INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan, while highlighting the party's recent MLC election victories across four states.

00:00Hello and welcome, you're watching 5 Live on India Today. I'm Sonal Mayrothra Kapoor.
00:04Let's quickly take you through what are going to be the three top stories on Focus on Our Programme this
00:09evening.
00:10We start with the white and dirty reality of Yamunao.
00:13Why year after year we keep facing the same problem.
00:16Our air, if being polluted was not enough, we now have a problem of water as well.
00:22But talking about air, let's talk about India's pollution apocalypse.
00:27Now remember, yesterday we showed you the list of the top 20 most polluted cities on the entire planet.
00:33Today we are taking you through the top 10 and guess how many are from India?
00:37Nine out of those 10 are all from India and you'll be surprised that Delhi becomes the focus every time
00:42when we talk about pollution.
00:44There are several other cities which are doing much worse as we speak from the national capital as well.
00:48And then, as always, at 5.30, we've got our focus on the election express.
00:53Today we're looking at Punjab powder and politics.
00:56How that's become the central theme and the central focus of all political parties as they head into the election
01:04season.
01:05So all that and much more coming up on the programme.
01:07Let's start with the headlines on Top of 5.
01:11Are Deep Singh Puri to remain a part of the Modi cabinet?
01:14Well, that's the big question.
01:15That is the big hint coming from BJP as they field Petroleum Minister for Rajasabha seat.
01:22That was vacated by El Murugan from Madhya Pradesh.
01:27It's in the beam to lead the Lok Tantra Bachao Rajakta Hattao March in Delhi.
01:35That is to start shortly.
01:36BJP is counter-offensive ahead of opposition's November 1st Ramvila rally.
01:42Politics over Tata boardroom tussle.
01:44Rahul Gandhi alleges the prestigious Tata group is being systematically destroyed by the government.
01:48Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman hits back saying that the Congress leader is trying to incite businesses.
01:56Diwali Bodansar from Central Government Employees Center approved 3% hike in dearness allowance
02:01and a move that will benefit over 1.17 crore people.
02:09At least 39 people are killed after two high-speed trains collide in Spain's Toledo.
02:14More than 500 people were on board of the two trains.
02:18Authorities launch rescue operations and probe what led to this tragic incident.
02:32If the air of the national capital region choking was not enough, we have a new problem.
02:36Yamuna, which is choking.
02:38Yamuna is choking under the weight of pollution with thick, toxic foam covering stretches of the river in the national
02:44capital.
02:44Yesterday, we showed you the disturbing visuals of the river that supply a significant part of Delhi's water supplies as
02:50well
02:50and how its condition deteriorates as pollution season sets in.
02:54But today, we go beyond the visuals.
02:56We tell you what the water quality tests actually reveal
02:59and how polluted the Yamuna really has become over the years.
03:04My colleague Amit Bharatwaj accessed the key September 2026 testing document
03:09of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee tracking water quality at multiple points along the river.
03:14From Pala to Okhla Baraj and findings that will bring out the grim reality of our times.
03:22Documents record a sharp deterioration in water quality as Yamuna flows through Delhi at Pala.
03:28The Biochemical Oxygen Demand or the BOD was recorded at 2 mg per litre.
03:35But the ISBT bridge, it shoots up to 30 mg per litre.
03:3810 times the prescripted benchmark of 3.
03:41How does that happen?
03:43Where exactly is the pollution taking place?
03:45We'll uncover in the next report.
03:46Also, high BOD means that more oxygen is needed to break down organic pollution in the water,
03:53leaving less oxygen available for the aquatic life.
03:56And that is not the only concern, of course.
03:58The document also records high levels of faecal coliform bacteria at several locations,
04:04including 35,000 MPPS per 100 mg at the ISBT bridge compared to about 1,100 at Pala.
04:13What exactly does high coli, this faecal coli do?
04:16It makes us all sick.
04:18It makes us very, very sick.
04:20Now, these are all indicators of serious sewage contamination.
04:23So, what exactly is entering the Yamuna?
04:26Where is the pollution burden really rising from the most?
04:29And what do these official results that the government also has, like we have,
04:33tell us about the state of the river flowing through the national capital region?
04:37My colleague Amit Bharadwaj with this special report.
05:08The report tracks the Yamuna at different points, from Pala, where the river enters Delhi, to Okla Barrage.
05:15At Pala, the faecal coliform count stood at 1,100.
05:19At Wazirabad, it rose to 1,300.
05:22But at ISBT bridge, the figure shot up to 35,000.
05:28At ITO, it was 17,000.
05:30And at Okla Barrage, 21,000.
05:34The desirable limit is 500.
05:37While the maximum permissible limit is 2,500.
05:40In simple terms, these figures point to serious contamination from human and animal waste,
05:45often linked to sewage entering the river.
05:49And faecal coliform is not the only concern.
05:52The report also measures biochemical oxygen demand, or BOD.
05:57The amount of oxygen microorganisms need to break down organic matter in water.
06:02Higher levels can mean less oxygen is available for aquatic life.
06:06For Class C water quality, the BOD criterion is 3mg per litre or less.
06:12At Pala, BOD level stood at 2mg per litre, within the prescribed limit.
06:18At Wazirabad, they rose to 4, above the limit of 3.
06:22At ISBT bridge, the figure shot up to 30.
06:25At ITO bridge, it was 18.
06:28While at Nizamuddin bridge, it stood at 14.
06:31And at Okla Barrage, it was recorded at 10mg per litre.
06:36More than three times the prescribed limit.
06:39The contrast is stark.
06:41As the river flows through the capital, the water quality deteriorates sharply at several monitoring points.
06:49And you don't need a lab test to see the difference.
06:52Just look at the colour of the Yamuna's water next to the water we drink at our homes.
06:58This water certainly is not fit even to take a dip.
07:02Let alone, you know, drinking or taking a yachaman.
07:07Why I am saying that?
07:08Now I have two water samples.
07:10One of the Yamuna that I have taken live from the river.
07:14The other that I have gotten from our office.
07:17The clarity of the water to water is pretty much visible on the camera.
07:22That's the live test.
07:23Without any lab test required, the visible through your bare eyes,
07:27you can actually understand what's the difference between the two water samples.
07:32But sewage and industrial waste are not the only concerns.
07:37Flowers, pooja offerings, havan material and idols are also immersed in the river.
07:43These add to the waste entering an already polluted Yamuna.
07:47People believe that the pooja that's being done in their homes,
07:51the flowers cannot be given to the person who collects garbage at your home.
07:56They come here out of their faith.
07:59And they do the arpan of the flowers into this Yamuna river.
08:03But remember, when you do that, each time when you do that,
08:07you are further killing this river Yamuna,
08:11which is already battling for its life.
08:16And when our reporter questioned devotees' immersing offerings in the river,
08:20they saw nothing wrong with the practice.
08:22This elderly couple has actually immersed a portrait of a god into the river
08:29and two smaller portraits as well.
08:31And now they are going, I believe, to, you know,
08:35put the flowers that they have brought in into the river Yamuna,
08:40further polluting the river.
09:10Sir, you are free to do what you will do.
09:11and now consider this contrast on October 26th the Delhi government announced trial runs of the
09:34Namo Yamuna cruise safari on the Sonia Vihar Jagatpuri stretch as part of its plans to revamp
09:41the riverfront and offer people a new way to experience the Yamuna but at Kalindi Kunsh the
09:48river is covered in thick white froth and the government's own pollution control data records
09:53high levels of contamination at several points along the Yamuna this is the bird's-eye view of
10:00Yamuna River the froth and foam on the top of the river the toxicity in the water is clearly visible
10:07and it is also giving a big question to us as to whether this river is even safe to take
10:16a dip
10:16or to offer yachaman as we do in Sanatana Dharma or rather any kind of biodiversity to be alive in
10:28this water that is a big question because the foam in the days to come will only increase as the
10:34water
10:34level goes down the winter increases and the challenge becomes even bigger as the chhat season
10:40approaches with video journalist Sanjay Kumar this is Amit Bhardwaj reporting for India today from Delhi
10:49the sad reality of Yamuna has been put out there brilliantly by my colleague Amit Bhardwaj but let's
10:56look at the other problem Delhi NCR faces and this has got to do with the pollution in our air
11:01just
11:02yesterday on this very show we highlighted for you how India is facing a pollution apocalypse five of the
11:07world's ten most polluted cities were in India while 13 out of the top 20 were also Indian cities but
11:13today the numbers are even more alarming as we move closer to Diwali as we move closer to the winter
11:20season look what the AQI meter is telling us according to AQI.in ranking at 11 a.m this morning
11:2624 of the world's 25 most polluted cities are from India just take a moment to let that sink in
11:3424 out of
11:35the 25 most polluted cities are from India out of the 25 most polluted cities on the list only one
11:41is
11:41outside only one is not Indian let's start with the number there the highest is actually Uttar Pradesh
11:48Agra at 363 there is Shri Ganga Nagar in Rajasthan that is second at 362 followed by Firozabad in
11:55Uttar Pradesh again at 360 then there is some in Indonesia which is the only non-Indian city on the
12:04list
12:04also recording around 360 over there and then we come to Gurugram in Haryana ranked fifth globally
12:11with the AQI of 357 Rotak follows at 352 while Bhivani records at 351 Mathura Bulantreher both again
12:20in Uttar Pradesh are next with the AQI of 344 each then another UP city Ghaziabad records
12:26341 followed by Muratabad 339 and then comes the national capital standing at number 12 with AQI
12:34of 338 further down the list you've got Sonipath at 329 you've got Hisar you've got Kretanoida you've
12:40got Gualier all of them in the range of 320 upwards then there is Faridkot in Punjab
12:47recording 323 there Rivadi in Haryana and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir both reporting an AQI
12:53of 320 imagine that Jammu and Kashmir recording an AQI of 320 then there is Haapur and Uttar Pradesh
13:00recording 315 followed by Faridabad and Sirsa at 314 each there is Aligarh then there is
13:09Muzaffar Nagar there is Begu Sarai in Bihar and the list goes on essentially 25 Indian cities are the
13:17most polluted in the world for years now we've spoken about Delhi being the only problem the
13:23they're only realizing now that India is facing an air pollution crisis and India needs to solve
13:30for it India all the way from the north of the country to the south of the country from the
13:34east
13:34to the west is facing the issue of air pollution it is not just a winter problem it is not
13:40just a farm
13:41fire problem as well and as I am telling you all the story pollution is not just a Delhi NCR
13:45story
13:46alone like I told you from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana to Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar the numbers
13:51speak for themselves the entire north central India and also south areas then struggling to breathe
13:58and all of this as we just heading into the Diwali season where there will be more firecrackers
14:09all right moving on to the other big story we are tracking the center has now formally recognized
14:14E100 fuel under the central motor vehicles rules paving the way for vehicles specialized designed
14:21to run on high ethanol blends to be certified in India the highest possible that is ethanol 100
14:29the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has notified the changes on the 26th of October
14:35updating the rules governing the vehicle's emission certification and also testing so what exactly
14:40has changed well the government has amended rule 115 of the central motor vehicles rules 1989 to
14:47recognize E100 alongside E85 and also update the technical requirements for E100 compatible vehicles
14:55in simple terms it means that manufacturers now have a clearer regulatory framework to certify
15:02vehicles that can run on fuel with very high concentration of ethanol but remember this does
15:09not mean that your regular petrol car or any ice vehicle can suddenly run on E100 as well that's where
15:15you and I need to be very very careful because you all know what even E20 has done to the
15:20cars
15:20on the roads but let's deep dive a little bit and talk about what exactly is E100 now E100
15:27is a fuel made predominantly from ethanol an alcohol-based fuel that can be produced from
15:33agricultural sources such as sugarcane and even grains the simplest way to understand these fuels grades
15:39is to look at the number after the letter E that means all the way from E20 to E85 to
15:46E100 it indicates
15:47the proportion of ethanol in the fuel E20 which is now the standard petrol blend in India across
15:53unless you ask for XP100 that contains 20% of ethanol E85 contains 85% of ethanol while E100
16:01is predominantly ethanol as of now Maruti Suzuki Wagener flex fuel is the only passenger car model
16:11which has been unveiled in India with E100 compatibility and India's journey towards ethanol
16:17blending has been a long one remember spanning more than two decades now it began in 2001 with pilot
16:23projects to supply petrol blended with 5% ethanol that's how it had started in 2001 then in January
16:29of 2003 ethanol blended petrol program was you know introduced in select states and Union territories the
16:36program was formally announced in 2004 and by November 2006 E5 petrol has been extended to more
16:43states as well but the expansion was slow in early years ethanol blending remained very low averaging
16:49between you know 0.1 to 0.5 a percent until 2013-14 limited supplies difficulty in securing enough
16:57ethanol was amongst one of the key challenges but then in January of 2013 the government introduced a
17:02policy framework targeting 5% ethanol blending across 10 states and Union territories a major policy
17:08shift came in in the December of 2014 when the government reintroduced and administered uh you
17:15know pricing mechanism for ethanol procured under the program and took steps to encourage greater
17:20production then in May of 2018 the national policy on biofuels widened the range of raw materials that
17:29could be used to produce ethanol introducing sources beyond the traditional sugarcane based production
17:34and then in June of 2021 Neeti Ayog released its roadmap for ethanol blending the government then brought
17:41forward its target of achieving 20% blending from 2030 to 2526 and the number shows just how quickly the
17:50program has expanded in recent years now ethanol blending stood at around 8.1 percent in 2020 and 2021
17:58supply year and it rose to 10 percent in 2021 22 12.1 percent in 20 to 23 and 14
18:05.6 percent in 23 24 when
18:08we talk about 24 25 years it's 19.2 already now remember the government has reported that India achieved
18:15the 20 percent blending levels in 25 26 but India is not the first country to use ethanol as a
18:21transport
18:22fuel several countries have been using it for years take United States for example E10 may contain 10% ethanol
18:29is the most common petrol blend over there motorists can choose E15 E85 with E85 meant for vehicles you know
18:37specifically designed to run on that high ethanol fuel and then there is Brazil the example the government keeps
18:43citing which has a much longer history of ethanol use ethanol there has become a major part of its transport
18:49fuel mix and
18:50E100 is also available for compatible vehicles compatible vehicles being the operative term over there also
18:58in Thailand Thailand began marketing E10 in 2003 and later introduced E20 and E85 giving motorists more
19:05options when it comes to ethanol blended fuels and then there is France where E10 has become country's
19:11most popular petrol by the end of 2025 it accounted for nearly 61 percent of petrol market but at the
19:18end of this
19:19this entire story what's the key thing for you to remember there is nothing wrong in blending the fuel
19:25as long as you know that it's compatible with your car and not just your car what about motorbikes that
19:32has been the major backlash against the government and specifically Nitin Gatkari when it comes to ethanol
19:37blending with motorists saying that a they did not have any choice of the fuel that they could choose
19:42and B most of the cars are not really compatible the government remember has pushed back saying that
19:48no such damage is being seen in cars but people have repeatedly raised concerns of mileage of damage
19:54to the engine and other issues that have been reported in cars and also in bikes
20:04all right moving on to the story that's going to be unfolding on the streets of the national
20:08capital very soon in a short while from now BJP president Nitin Nabeen will lead his party's charge
20:14against the opposition's vote chowdy campaign with a padhyatra in Delhi's Chamni Chowk now the march is part
20:22of BJP's Lok Tantra Bachao Rajakta Hatao campaign targeting the India Bloc also it comes just days
20:30before the opposition mega show of strength at Ramneela Medan which is happening on the 1st of
20:35November now security arrangements are being ramped up as the India Bloc rally even as you know traders
20:41urge Rahul Gandhi to oppose it citing fears of business disruption due to the festive season so as the BJP
20:49takes its fight to the streets and match the momentum of the opposition at the moment the
20:54opposition prepares for its own show of strength the political battle over vote chowdy is only getting
21:01started Ramlila Medan is preparing for a massive India Bloc rally on November 1st and the security
21:11arrangements are being scaled up accordingly Delhi police is planning to deploy around 3,000
21:18personnel with the venue divided into eight regions and 14 zones to manage the crowd CCTV cameras body
21:26worn cameras and a temporary control room will form part of the surveillance plan the rally has been
21:32permitted between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. subject to conditions that include drinking water toilets
21:38volunteers parking and CCTV surveillance there will be no March or overnight stay and the event cannot
21:45continue beyond the stipulated time traders association they have been calling out to Congress party the
21:53India Bloc leaders to postpone this after Diwali but we see that the arrangements are going on the rally is
22:01going to be as per schedule so far there's no change in that schedule there are preparations in
22:07India Bloc also going on for that rally of November 1st that happens to be a Sunday you can see
22:13the stage is
22:14already prepared at Ramlila Medan and we also see the chairs have been brought in there are barricades
22:20which have been brought here but while the India Bloc prepares for a show of political strength the
22:28rally has triggered concerns among traders the Chamber of Trade and Industry has warned that the gathering
22:34could disrupt business in 20 to 21 markets during the festive season the traders have sought a meeting with
22:41Rahul Gandhi asking the Congress leader to hear them out and live up to his much repeated pitch of
22:47this mohabbat ki dukaan
22:50Rahul Ji say ye maang kar rahe ki aap is Diwali ke bajaar me this mohabbat ki dukaan ko tole
22:55rena
22:55djee jis seh am apna vipar bhi kar sake am wait kar rahe ki Rahul Ji ame milne ka samayi
23:00de toh hum sare vipar hi ja ke unse minne and aupni baat rakte
23:04Congress has claimed that the rally could draw as many as 10 lakh people however Ramlila Medan's reported
23:10capacity is around 50,000 while police estimates put the expected turnout at 40 to 50,000 that leaves
23:18the authorities with a major task managing the crowd ensuring access to the venue and preventing
23:24disruption in the surrounding areas for the India Bloc November 1st is an opportunity to demonstrate
23:30its strength on the streets of the national capital but as the rally preparations gather pace traders are
23:38asking a pointed question should the political show of strength come at a cost of business during
23:44the festive season Vishwani Sharma bureau report India today all right cutting across to some visuals
23:59coming to us from Channi chalk this is the BJP rally headed by Nitin Nabeen you see on stage Rekha
24:06Gupta the Delhi chief minister also other you know top ministers in the Delhi cabinet and then
24:14you have Nitin Nabeen the BJP president there as well now remember this is the BJP's rally
24:20and a padhyatra that they are starting today one that they call is one to save democracy this is
24:29supposed to be a tit-for-tat rally but coming before the opposition actually hits the street
24:34opposition on the 1st of November will be getting together in Ramlila Maidan for what they call is a
24:40massive coming of strength and show of strength demanding the resignation of the CEC now here we go
24:48on the ground in Channi chalk where you see a lot of BJP flags over there let's cut across to
24:54my
24:54colleague Ashwarya joining us for more details on the story Ashwarya as we all know every time a rally is
25:01called by an association there is one or the other party backing it most of the associations
25:07in business class community at least backed by the BJP is that the kind of people you're seeing there at
25:14the rally
25:21and the place where I'm standing is right next to the stage what you can really see are a lot
25:27of BJP
25:28flags that most of the people in fact have in their hands and this is symbolic get together a symbolic
25:35march
25:35that we will see taking place why is it symbolic because very close to where this march is being held
25:42today we will see the opposition gathering on the 1st of November a lot of traders in fact you know
25:47traders like the khan market association cannot place association they have knocked on the doors of the
25:52supreme court telling the supreme court that whenever there are protests that happen their business gets
25:58hampered so these are the kind of rupees made by the traders the BJP now saying that if the opposition
26:03will come
26:04so close to this area you know this area which actually is because of the festive season BJP will
26:10also come here and tell the traders the lies that the opposition allegedly has been speaking about so
26:16we see a lot of people in fact the Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta also is present on the stage
26:21Delhi uh the BJP president Nitin Naveen also on the stage people here and the security also heightened
26:28security because this is an area which is chalk or block you know there is no space that's the reason
26:34why we are seeing such high security deployment also at the moment as far as the question that comes to
26:40mind is
26:41that if they are protesting for not having the rally that day at Ramrila Maidan isn't this causing the
26:50same amount of business loss isn't this also hasn't this also brought business to a standstill
27:02well definitely you know the traders in fact beat the BJP out here in large numbers beat the opposition
27:07at the end of the day the traders have been saying that the dates need to be shifted the reason
27:12why the
27:12BJP is doing this is because they want to send out a message and from the 1st of November let
27:17me tell you
27:17what we will see on one side we will see the top opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi,
27:23Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadu, all of them will be out on the streets the BJP also will be bringing the
27:29big
27:29guns you know all of them will make sure that their top guns also in fact are out on the
27:35streets we will see
27:36Home Minister Ahmed Shah we will see the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityan all of them out on the streets
27:42and there will be
27:42marches that will be carried out uh throughout the country so those are some of the things that we will
27:48see
27:48be happening but what the traders have been saying beat the ruling party beat the opposition party this is the
27:54time when they make money this is the time when the customers are out there buying things the festive season
28:00will definitely get it this is something uh that we are seeing the traders saying but despite that on both
28:06the
28:06sides we are seeing large organization large number of people coming out the stage has been set here
28:12BJP president along with the BJP chief minister Rekha Gupta all of them out on the stage and ready for
28:21a
28:21march which will begin shortly now so where exactly is this march going ashwarya take us through what
28:27exactly are the key demands
28:33well you know this is a symbolic uh march let me tell you so that at the moment is taking
28:38place uh you
28:39are seeing the top leadership seated right here this is the heart of uh Charlie chalk you know this is
28:46a
28:46place where so many people in fact you know I realize we were trying to reach uh this place you
28:51know it
28:51took us quite a lot of while uh because there were so so so many people out here shopping you
28:56know the
28:56festivities just from the corner from here the main Chandni chalk area we will see the march which will go
29:03on
29:03for almost a kilometer into the market there are many traders in fact you know let me tell you they
29:08are coming out
29:08and they are supporting the BJP but what they are saying at the moment that we do not want the
29:13opposition the kind of
29:15lives the kind of the kind of hierarchy because that's also a word that we have seen the opposition
29:20speak about that's the word that the BJP has caught on the ruling NDA has caught on and they are
29:26saying we are truly
29:27democratic that's the reason why you can see the opposition in fact you know out on the streets and now
29:32you know I don't know whether you'll be able to hear what they are saying or not but what they
29:37are saying
29:38is the fact that it's the BJP which is truly democratic just flip through the pages of history and you
29:43will
29:43realize when the Congress was ruling for such a long time the Congress was you know the party under
29:50which the emergency was being imposed on our country and also we are the ones who have been trying to
29:56we are the ones who are trying to save the democracy this is what the BJP is now claiming so
30:02all right before we let you go Aishwarya just give me a sense of how many people are there at
30:08the moment
30:13well you know in this jam-packed area roughly we you know from what I can actually tell you you
30:20just a 360 degree view by camera person Emmanuel will give you you will be able to see it's choco
30:25block from what we are expecting there are close to four to five thousand people and but but please also
30:31include you know those people who have come out to shop the shopkeepers and those people who stay close by
30:36along with the BJP the
30:38hard call BJP Karekarta the chief minister also present here are the other ministers from the BJP all of
30:45all right Aishwarya there my colleague reporting from Channi Chowk where the BJP's Padhyatra is just about to begin
31:00Cutting across to some updates now Prime Minister Modi has reacted to the MLC election verdict across four states where
31:06the BJP has dominated let's take you through the results there MLC elections in 28 seats across four big states
31:12which include Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka elections held using ballot paper and guess how many seats the Congress
31:19really won
31:20Prime Minister there you know questioning the opposition stand on the sanctity of election saying that this was held using
31:29ballot paper and guess how many Congress actually won now all of this in the background of the CC protests
31:36the SIR protests that have taken over the country by the opposition and by several other pressure groups as well
31:43Prime Minister there reacting to the assembly elections where BJP has dominated across the four states
31:50of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka
32:04All right four states there that have just come out with their local elections the MLC elections there Prime Minister
32:13talking about BJP's spectacular performance over there Piyush Misha joins us for more details on the story
32:20Piyush Misha, Uttar Pradesh would make the Prime Minister and BJP happy but is Karnataka the state which has made
32:28them most happy?
32:30Why? Because Karnataka is a state where the Congress has its government and where when BJP wins four seats where
32:38we know BJP has been able to win three and BJP has won one seat which is certainly giving a
32:45lot of boost to the Sarekattas there in the state of Karnataka.
32:48That's what Piyush Mishra is also talking about as to how these elections happened on the ballot but the Congress
32:55party won only zero seats.
32:58He has also congratulated BJP workers for this great victory but at the same time Piyush Marendra Modi is also
33:05still taking a dive at the Congress party asking these elections happen on the ballot and imagine how many seats
33:14Congress won.
33:15So Piyush Marendra Modi is now making a big attack and you would remember that the Congress party has been
33:21asking for elections to happen on Venezuela.
33:24It is all the family demands of the Congress party and when the elections on Venezuela have happened we are
33:29seeing how Congress has not been able to win three and one seat and that's what is now prompting Piyush
33:35Marendra Modi to make a big attack on the Congress party.
33:38Piyush Marendra Modi also joins us from the newsroom over there.
33:42Maria a lot of times we make too much into what local elections mean but this one with Karnataka also
33:48which is Congress ruled going to the BJP what exactly does it tell us?
33:53Look this is not making too much of the local elections this was an important consequential election 28 seats in
34:00four states which includes four seats in the state of Karnataka a state which is governed by the Congress party
34:08and the Congress party scoring a zero in all this in this entire election certainly shows that the party's organization
34:15is a big question.
34:17What the Prime Minister has said is that this was an election which was held on the ballot.
34:23What happens to that entire bogey that has been built by the Congress party led by Rahul Gandhi as to
34:30that the election should go back to the ballot papers that the EVM machines are faulty that there is a
34:36larger electoral fraud being done by the BJP basically by the election commission being directed by the BJP.
34:45So all that bogey certainly fails is what the Prime Minister says with the Congress not winning a single seat.
34:51I am going to go state by state.
34:53In the state of Bihar there are eight seats that went to polls.
34:57The BJP has done well and in the remaining seats it is the RJD and the Jansuraj of Prashant Kishore
35:03which has scored.
35:04In the state of Uttar Pradesh the Samajwadi party has done well and then it is between the Samajwadi party
35:10and the other seats going to the BJP.
35:13Maharashtra again it is the BJP versus the Mahayuti.
35:18In all these seats 28 seats in all.
35:22Remember Sonal these elections are coming in the backdrop of what has been the campaign of Rahul Gandhi which is
35:28with regards to what he says that the elections are being stolen by the election commission for the BJP.
35:34Now what happens to the bogey is the question that is being raised by the Prime Minister in that tweet
35:40which he has just put out.
35:42Alright so the Prime Minister clearly then Maria reflecting and if this were to be taken as a mood of
35:47the nation if one can call it that reflecting on the series of protests that we have had against the
35:51CEC.
35:51He has got something to say.
35:52But interesting choice of words there by the Prime Minister saying just guess how many Congress won leaving there for
35:58people to guess with a question mark.
36:01Yes I think that's the Prime Minister also sending a message to Gen Z sending a message to a generation
36:10which is very cryptic in its words as well.
36:12So he has made everybody curious because 28 seats and he is asking how many seats did the Congress win
36:20which will be essentially making one and all perhaps Google and use various other platforms news media platforms such as
36:28ours to try and understand what has been a very dismal performance of the Congress party.
36:33Particularly losing in the state of Karnataka where they are in power they have lost all four seats.
36:38The NDA has swept Karnataka is a message that all that talk may be good when it is about the
36:46campaign which has been built by Rahul Gandhi but the real test is an organization which is needed if the
36:54Congress were to translate what they say has been a mood against Prime Minister Modi and the BJP.
37:01Maria also let's talk about Uttar Pradesh a little bit the state which is going to head into polls in
37:05not very months from now we are expecting it to be somewhere in the first part of next year as
37:10well.
37:10This also comes as comfort to the BJP?
37:13Absolutely. I think look in the state of Uttar Pradesh it's even steven between the Samajwadi party and the BJP
37:22quite literally opening up the state like never before and also signaling what happened in 2024.
37:28But I would say that the larger message in all these 28 seats remember MLC elections which has to do
37:36with teachers these are the teachers which are the voters in this electoral college for these MLC seats.
37:44MLCs again are part of the bicameral. These are states which have a lower house and an upper house. A
37:52house of legislative council and a legislative assembly. That's why these four states become important.
37:58For in these states if this is the mood and the larger message that has gone that when it is
38:05about the ballot papers the ballot papers which the Congress party has been pushing for which has been really the
38:13talking point in the last few weeks that the BJP wins elections because the EVMs are fixed.
38:19The BJP wins elections because the special intensive revision has been done to perhaps disturb the level playing field ahead
38:29of elections.
38:30All those narratives certainly will see a setback and many would say it has been dismantled with these results.
38:38Right and you know Maria it's interesting and just for the benefit of our viewers historically MLC elections have been
38:45done on the ballot paper and anything above that in assembly onwards is very important.
38:49Where an EVM machine has been used. So it's not like an exception has been made over here. It's just
38:53according to protocol that this works. Right.
38:57So that's a way of looking at it. Yes. The elections for MLCs are done through ballot papers.
39:04But even in that if the Congress is not able to win a single seat.
39:09All right. Just cutting across from Nitin Nabeen speaking. The BJP president at Chandni Chowk during the rally.
39:14Let's dip in the rally.
40:08Let's dip in the rally.
40:13Let's dip in the rally.
40:47।
40:48।
40:49which is the degree of the state of state.
41:01We should have taken a lot of work,
41:11so that we have taken a lot of work in it.
