A group of travelers from Northeast Ohio received the ultimate weather shock when their tropical vacation suddenly turned into a trip to cold Canada.

Passengers had booked a winter escape on the MSC Meraviglia out of Brooklyn, expecting sunny beaches in the Bahamas. However, severe winter storms along the East Coast forced the cruise line to change course for safety reasons just before departure.

Instead of warm ocean breezes, the ocean liner headed north toward Boston and Saint John, New Brunswick. Passengers were left wearing swimsuit attire while trying to buy winter coats during brief port stops in cold conditions.

The cruise line offered passengers options to cancel for credit or stay onboard for a partial refund. Ohio travelers shared that flexibility and warm coats are essential when ocean weather disrupts travel plans.
