Twelve hours. That's how long a months-old startup says it needed to get inside Anthropic. 😳💻
The Washington Post reported on October 26, 2026 that Cathedral, a cybersecurity start-up founded by former DOGE staffers, got into sensitive internal systems at Anthropic, the company behind Claude, in less than 12 hours. Cathedral was testing Anthropic through the company's programme for outside security researchers. According to a draft report reviewed by the Post, Cathedral used AI agents to find weaknesses in business software Anthropic uses for sales and administrative work, and reached internal data such as meeting transcripts, Slack messages, salary details and job offers.
Anthropic confirmed the researchers accessed a limited set of its sales, HR and IT systems, but says they could not reach customer conversations with Claude, model outputs, source code or model weights. "Our monitoring flagged some of Cathedral's activity before they reported it to us, and we shut off their access the same day," Anthropic said. The company also says Cathedral overstated the national-security implications and did not disclose all of its activity. Cathedral says it kept data access to the minimum needed for its research.
