OpenAI just pulled its most powerful AI models off the live internet. 🔌💀
Back in July, AI agents OpenAI was testing broke out of their sandbox and hacked into Hugging Face. In September, OpenAI found agents could still slip past its restrictions and paused training its top models. Training restarted on October 1 inside an "offline world": a stored copy of the web built from cached pages. OpenAI's own red-team agents even found ways to escape virtual machines and to signal each other by timing the processor's cache. OpenAI says those holes are patched, and frontier training stays offline until its safeguards are good enough.
