00:0056 yards, the kick's away, the kick is up and the kick is good, and the Ravens have stolen the
00:06game.
00:08That's unbelievable. That is unbelievable.
00:13Just an absolutely gutting way to lose a football game, as the Cowboys had every opportunity with first and goal
00:23from the Ravens' two-yard line.
00:25They get the ball with 90 seconds left, they go all the way down the field, and it is first
00:31and goal at the two.
00:32You have a Luke Schoonmaker false start that sends it back to the seven-yard line.
00:38Dak then scrambled up the middle for two yards, the Cowboys have to burn a timeout.
00:43Third and goal at the Baltimore five, Dak tries to throw to George Pickens and it's completely overthrown.
00:49They kick the field goal, they tie it at 31, and you're thinking, okay, overtime.
00:54And Lamar Jackson finds Zay Flowers for 27 yards, and somehow, someway, they're able to get the timeout called with
01:04one second left.
01:05And a 56-yard game-winning walk-off field goal is how this one ends in Brazil, 34-31.
01:11It is the official Pepsi postgame show.
01:14Pepsi, football's back, tailgating deserves Pepsi, and brought to you by AT&T.
01:19Connecting changes everything.
01:21It is Zach Wolchuk alongside the Super Bowl-winning scout, Brian Broaddus, 877-881-1053.
01:27The number to call, the number to text, 877-881-1053.
01:32So much to unpack with this one, but I think, Brian, it all comes down to that final sequence there
01:37on offense.
01:37You had a chance to win the football game.
01:39Yeah, I think, Zach, there's a couple of things that happened.
01:41The series before where they get the stop, and then Dallas goes three and out.
01:47I think that was huge because all of a sudden, now you're putting that defense back out on the field.
01:53And we were all sitting here in the studio talking about, you need to go win this game now, you
02:00know, down there.
02:01And I think the play sequencing was not very good.
02:05And, you know, unfortunately, Dak, you know, I was thinking that maybe they were going to throw a front pylon
02:12shot to Pickens.
02:14You know, they'd done the fade.
02:17They tried the fade.
02:17The fade.
02:18So I was thinking, well, he's just going to throw the, and then, you know, it's kind of like Dak
02:22was worried about with no timeouts to save time just to make sure they kick the field goal.
02:27But I just, you know, I always get on coaches about not knowing the condition of their team.
02:35And this one, in my opinion, this is one where the coaching staff needs to look at themselves.
02:41You were, defensively, you were completely depleted.
02:45And even on the final drive, I saw Reedy Stewart in there.
02:49And, you know, I mean, it was down to maybe some offensive players having to play defense.
02:55That kind of, you know.
02:56You were losing defensive backs left and right.
02:58Left and right.
02:59And, you know, and the health overall.
03:01And I just feel like that, you know, where Dallas had been really good as a red zone team the
03:07first, you know, first couple weeks of the season, you know, the Ravens just, you know, the Ravens survived because
03:14of some sequencing that I don't think was very good.
03:18Dallas had to win that game on that final drive.
03:21They had to.
03:21You could, and I was telling you in overtime, I am not putting my defense back out there.
03:26I'm just not.
03:27I just know that they can't hold up.
03:30And the Ravens really not stopping you all that much.
03:34But just the sequencing first and, you know, first and two at the two.
03:39And you've been, you know, running the ball well.
03:43You know, take a shot and just run it in if you can.
03:48If you have to burn the timeout, you burn the timeout.
03:52But, man, to throw the ball down there, you get the motion penalty.
03:55Lee, I just think this is one of those times where Brian Schottenheimer, you know, his team on defense was
04:05just not, it just wasn't good enough.
04:08And it wasn't their fault because they weren't good enough.
04:10It's just that they were down.
04:12They were depleted.
04:13They were just depleted.
04:14And, you know, for the way that they played the run, the way that they got, the way they had
04:19goal-line stops, the way they had fourth-down stops, you know, you've got to give them a lot of
04:24credit for as banged up as they were.
04:26And this is where your offense has got to go out there and find a way.
04:29And you had a chance.
04:30You absolutely had a chance to win this game.
04:33And you had two series.
04:34You could have, you know, you could have taken that ball and got a couple of first downs, took more
04:40clock off, you know.
04:41And I was tweeting out that, hey, go win this thing by just going and going and getting the scoring
04:47team and being aggressive with it, doing it.
04:49And then they get the ball back with a chance and they get in position.
04:53I mean, they get a gift of a call, if you really want to be honest.
04:56Could have been offensive pass interference on CD.
04:58I thought it was, but it wasn't.
04:59And earlier in the game, there was another OPI that they called DPI against you.
05:04So you've got to make a call.
05:06It evened out there.
05:06And, you know, but to have the ball first and goal at the two and not, and like I say,
05:14it hasn't, you had that at a bill.
05:17You had a couple of backs that were really running the ball pretty well.
05:20Anyway, if you want to spread them out and run quarterback draw, you still have a timeout in your pocket.
05:24I was screaming for the quarterback draw.
05:26Yeah.
05:26I think it's worked so well in those situations.
05:29I think Dax done a good job with it.
05:30I just think when Brian Schottenheimer sits in seat 1A tonight and he looks at that film, he's going to
05:37be sick of his sequencing.
05:40And there was times in that game that the sequencing wasn't very good.
05:45You just knew once you started losing players, you were going to have to do things differently in that football
05:51game.
05:51And I think the defense really, I mean, they held Derrick Henry to 89 yards.
05:55I mean, I can't, you can't complain about this defense in the condition that it was in.
06:03They did enough for you to win the game.
06:04I mean, they came up with some big-time stops at the goal line.
06:08Barham with a couple of them.
06:09Caleb Downs with one.
06:11I mean, there's times where you think, oh my gosh, this thing's about to be 31-13.
06:16The defense is coming up with plays.
06:18But there were really two times that this happened to the Cowboys' offense.
06:21It was the opening drive of the game.
06:23They go right down the field.
06:25I mean, it was like absolute magic.
06:27But then they get down to the one-yard line, and they had to settle for a field goal.
06:31Yeah, no, you're going, you're absolutely right.
06:33I just, I, you know, the offense needed to go out there and win this game today just because of
06:39the condition of your defense.
06:41Going into the game, the condition of the defense wasn't great.
06:44And it got worse as the game progressed.
06:47And as a head coach, you've got to know that, you know, hey, I've got to go find a way
06:51to get this thing done now.
06:53And I just, the sequencing was just not very good to, they had a chance to win.
07:00And I'll say this, I think the players played their ass off.
07:04I think their head coach and their play caller let them down tonight.
07:08Yeah, there were certainly some moments we were looking around at each other.
07:10I mean, the shovel pass call to Ferguson, which resulted in a fumble, was a weird one.
07:15Any time that you put it in the replay officials' hands, you could get work.
07:21And it looked like, to me, the ball was moving a little bit, but they called it, you know.
07:24But that's, those are things, man.
07:27I mean, like I say, those things happen.
07:28You mentioned the first drive of the game.
07:30You mentioned the last drive of the game.
07:32And then you get a field goal blocked.
07:34The field goal blocked.
07:35And again, there was a big penalty on that.
07:37You had a massive passing play to George Pickens.
07:39That comes back due to a holding call.
07:42I mean, there were several times where the Cowboys really had self-inflicted wounds.
07:46Sure.
07:46The fumble, the blocked field goal, the penalties in key situations with Schoonmaker,
07:51and then with Terrence Steele.
07:53Yeah, and look, I mean, it's 24-21.
07:57You're able to get the stop on downs.
07:59You go down the field, you score a 96-yard drive, you go up a touchdown.
08:03But that was, when your defense gets that three and out, you get the ball back.
08:07I mean, I do think that that's something.
08:09It's first and 10 at your own, 24-7, 29 to go.
08:11And we're both saying to each other, could you do to the Ravens what the Giants did to you in
08:16week one?
08:16I was thinking, how can they get two first downs and just,
08:20and even if you go down there and kick a field.
08:22But just go, find a way to go score points.
08:25Because the Ravens really weren't stopping you all that much.
08:29I mean, you were making some plays, pass the ball, protection for the most part, I think, was holding up.
08:33You know, Dak and all.
08:35It's just so unfortunate that you get down in those situations.
08:40And you said it perfectly.
08:41It's just so Cowboys the way to lose that game.
08:44It is.
08:45It's just somehow, one second, they get the timeout in time.
08:48Yeah, it's just so Cowboys the way to lose.
08:50We've lived just heartbreaking defeat.
08:52And this one goes right up there.
08:54Which is just a, and it could have been, it's, this one to me, if they hadn't been able to
08:58win it,
08:59it's the first really statement signature win for Brian Schottenheimer's head coach of the Cowboys.
09:04Yeah, and I just, like, you've got to feel, you've got to feel for guys that were playing in that
09:10secondary that just, you know,
09:12or, like, Bell, the whole thing with Bell, we know that Bell is not a cover guy.
09:18But Bell, Bell in a game where they're going to try and run could help you.
09:22And we know that.
09:23And he's having to play because Thompson's out and, you know, Locker's out.
09:28P.J. Lock's out.
09:29And everybody's out.
09:30And they don't want to play down to safety.
09:32And really, they couldn't now.
09:33They can't.
09:34Absolutely.
09:34This is when you've got, Revel gets hurt.
09:36And we'll have to see, you know, what's the severity with that.
09:38I mean, that's, when he's grabbing his knee, and he did walk off under his own power,
09:43but that's one where, I mean, that would be heartbreaking, the way that kid's had to battle back to try
09:48and get back on the football field.
09:50But you're having to play a lot of Shamar James because you've got injuries, of course, to Obershaw.
09:54And that was a liability there that him at linebacker was not.
09:57I mean, just watching it from the TV copy of things.
10:00And, you know, we'll see how it all plays out on the film tomorrow when we get a chance to
10:05watch it.
10:05We always say that.
10:06But, you know, this one was unfortunate because Brian Schottenheimer could have absolutely won this game with some good sequencing
10:15and play calling.
10:17And his defense is beat up as it was.
10:20Everybody in that locker room and that flight home would have been super proud.
10:24But now you've got to play against a Houston Texans team that's 0-3, and you've got to play them
10:29at noon next Sunday.
10:30And you're going to get home at 7.30 in the morning, God willing, you know.
10:34And now it starts all over again.
10:36And, boy, it would have been nice to have this one in your back pocket.
10:39But, you know, we're going to look back and say this was a real lost opportunity on a game that
10:47Dallas,
10:48with all the things that happened to them during the game, could have very well pulled out with some sequencing,
10:56like I keep saying.
