00:00You're a ghost, haunting her footsteps.
00:06Vision picked a fake name to hide behind, Sherwood Ellis.
00:10Sounds like a regular guy pouring pints in Scotland.
00:13But that name is the exact thread a hired killer pulled to unravel everything.
00:18Where Vision lives, what he used to be, and the one person from his old life he thought was gone
00:24forever.
00:25One quick thing before we start.
00:27Vision Quest has 8 episodes, and 4 of them are already public.
00:31Episodes 1 and 2 dropped on October 13th, and episodes 3 and 4 followed on October 20th,
00:37with 5 and 6 scheduled for October 27th.
00:40But in this video, we are only explaining the first two.
00:44Episodes 3 and 4 get their own breakdown next.
00:47And yes, spoilers ahead for both episodes.
00:50So, let's start where the show starts.
00:52A pub in Edinburgh, Scotland.
00:54Vision works there under that fake name, Sherwood Ellis, for a kind woman named Fiona.
01:00And here's a detail that's easy to miss.
01:03Edinburgh is not random.
01:05It's the city where Wanda and Vision were last seen together during the events of Infinity War.
01:10And the show confirms they used to drink in this very bar.
01:14There's even a table with a heart carved into it, with both of their initials inside.
01:18Now, this Vision is trying hard to pass as human.
01:22Early on, he carries three beer kegs at once, which is, let's say, not normal.
01:28Fiona warns him he'll throw out his back.
01:31He plays along.
01:32But the way he talks gives him away.
01:34He sounds like a computer doing an impression of a person.
01:38Then, Fiona asks about the girl he used to come in with.
01:41Vision answers that she was crushed under the weight of a mountain.
01:44That's a literal reference to how Wanda's story ended in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
01:51Fiona hears it as a metaphor for heartbreak.
01:54And Vision doesn't understand why that's funny.
01:56That moment tells you everything about his problem.
01:59He takes the world literally.
02:01And humans almost never do.
02:04And that raises the big question.
02:06Why does he feel like a stranger in his own body?
02:09To answer that, we have to rewind.
02:11Ultron was originally built by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner as a global peacekeeper.
02:17And he decided the best way to bring peace was to wipe humanity out.
02:21To stop him, Tony and Bruce created Vision,
02:24using the Mind Stone and the AI that had been Tony's assistant, Jarvis.
02:28That's the original Vision.
02:30Thanos killed him in Infinity War by ripping the Mind Stone out of his head.
02:35Years later, inside the hex Wanda built over Westview,
02:38she recreated Vision out of grief.
02:41Meanwhile, Sward rebuilt a white, emotionless version of the real body.
02:46At the end of WandaVision, the Vision Wanda made passed his memories into the white Vision,
02:52then faded away when the hex fell.
02:54So the Vision we're following now has the old Vision's memories,
02:58but he never lived any of them.
03:00He's a copy with a past that doesn't feel like his.
03:03So where does this man go when he's confused?
03:07Inside his own head.
03:08In his mind, there's a digital house, and it's packed with the AIs Tony Stark built.
03:14Jarvis, the first one.
03:16Friday, who took over after him.
03:18Dummy and you from the early Iron Man days.
03:21And Edith, the glasses Peter Parker used in Far From Home.
03:24Their job is to teach Vision how to understand people.
03:28And the house is full of jokes.
03:30There's a vacuum named the Vis-O-Matic, a milk brand called Infinidary, sitting at 2% battery.
03:37Chips labeled microchips, with the note, original mind space.
03:41Cans stamped geofence.
03:43Firewall roasted tomatoes.
03:45And a roll of vibranium foil.
03:47There's even a newspaper called Vision Today.
03:50And one headline says,
03:52The hunt for stolen adamantium continues.
03:55Remember that word, because it's about to matter a lot.
03:58On the hallway wall, he has posters of his life.
04:01One for his birth.
04:03One for love with Wanda.
04:05One for death, which is the mind stone being torn from his head.
04:08One for his rebirth.
04:10And one that just says, coming soon.
04:12And a painting of a man engulfed in flames, which the AIs call the first of his kind.
04:18That's the original Human Torch, Jim Hammond.
04:21The synthetic man Marvel introduced back in 1939.
04:25Vision isn't the first android in this universe.
04:28He's just the latest.
04:30Jarvis and Vision call each other brothers.
04:33And Jarvis is the older one, because Tony built him first.
04:36Vision complains that Jarvis plays the older sibling card constantly.
04:40Apparently, 10,382 times this month.
04:45And Edith tells Vision that if he wants to understand humans, he has to learn to have fun.
04:50But there's one resident in the house who doesn't fit.
04:53On the top floor, noises are coming from a locked room.
04:57Inside is Ultron, captured and kept there by Vision's other AIs.
05:02The rules of the house say everyone has to stay in human form.
05:06So when Vision walks in and finds him in his robotic body, he orders him to change.
05:11Ultron turns into a human shape, voiced by James Spader.
05:15And he's annoyed about something very petty.
05:18He ordered food, and it arrived 40 minutes late.
05:21But the conversation turns serious.
05:24Ultron explains that when he was destroyed, he copied himself into Vision.
05:29And that's why he's still around.
05:31Vision doesn't want to hear about Westview.
05:33He says it wasn't real.
05:35Ultron says it was real, and that Vision is just afraid of it.
05:39And then, Ultron says something surprisingly honest.
05:42He tells Vision he knows more about humanity than Vision does.
05:47He says he wants to go out and enjoy the beauty of the world, or kill everyone.
05:51And the odds are 50-50.
05:53For one second, you see a half-decent Ultron.
05:57Hold on to that idea.
05:59Because Ultron is not trustworthy.
06:01While Vision isn't paying attention, he sends a message out into the world,
06:06revealing exactly where Vision is hiding.
06:08And someone is already listening.
06:10If you're enjoying this breakdown so far, hit the like button.
06:14It really helps the channel, and there's a lot more to unpack.
06:18That someone is Paladin.
06:20He arrives at the pub with a team of snipers.
06:23Without warning, a bullet hits Fiona in the chest, and she dies.
06:27Vision's A is warned him that there are snipers everywhere.
06:31Jarvis urges him not to let aggression take over.
06:34The old Vision, he says, would have stayed calm.
06:37This Vision answers, let's try something new.
06:39One by one, he takes the snipers out.
06:43Here's where Paladin gets interesting.
06:45In Marvel Comics, Paladin debuted in Daredevil number 150, created by writer Jim Shooter.
06:52And he's a mercenary, not a supervillain.
06:55He's been hired to hunt Daredevil, the Punisher, and plenty of others.
06:59And the one thing that matters to him is the contract.
07:02He doesn't care who the target is.
07:04But he also has a code.
07:06When one of his own men hurts Fiona, a civilian, Paladin shoots him on the spot, and says he
07:12made it clear no civilians were to be harmed.
07:15That's a strange kind of villain.
07:17He kills without hesitation, but only the people he was hired to kill.
07:22After the fight, Vision looks at Paladin and says something chilling.
07:26He has the face of an Avenger, but not the virtue.
07:29So, who's paying Paladin?
07:31We don't know.
07:32The show calls this person only the client.
07:35But Paladin's handler, played by Diane Morgan, starts digging into the name Sherwood Ellis.
07:41And the name is a trail of breadcrumbs.
07:44It's a mashup of two streets from Westview, the town Wanda controlled, Sherwood Drive, and
07:50Ells Avenue.
07:51Vision, without realizing it, buried his old life inside his new name.
07:56The handler breaks into SWORD files, finds the Westview records, and reads about the
08:02Hex, about Vision, and about two children Wanda created, Billy and Tommy.
08:08And here's the thing.
08:09We've already seen Billy come back in Agatha all along.
08:13So the question becomes, what happened to Tommy?
08:16The episode ends in London.
08:19Tommy has been living as a small-time con artist with a friend named Lisa, a talented pickpocket.
08:24They sell a fake watch to a guy, make some quick cash, and then that guy comes after
08:29them with his friends.
08:31Running for their lives, Tommy stumbles in front of a TV that's playing the news.
08:36Vision is alive.
08:37He freezes.
08:39He remembers a life where Vision was his father.
08:42Tommy panics.
08:43Lisa calms him down.
08:45And then, Paladin shows up.
08:47He takes Tommy and leaves Lisa unharmed, because again, she's not part of his contract.
08:52Then, he hacks Vision's mind house and sends a direct message.
08:57He has Vision's son.
08:59He plays a video of Tommy saying he has memories of another life, with parents named Wanda and
09:04Vision.
09:05And he gives Vision a choice.
09:07Surrender, or lose the boy.
09:09So, is Tommy really Vision's son?
09:12Episode 2 takes us back one year earlier to answer that.
09:16Tommy is giving a statement.
09:18He says he was at a pool, and then felt something hit his brain like a lightning bolt.
09:23Here's what happened.
09:25At the end of Agatha all along, Billy guided Tommy's spirit into the body of a teenager
09:30nearly drowned in a cruel prank.
09:33The boy's name is Thomas Shepard.
09:35Many people assume Tommy replaced him, but the show suggests both of them now exist in the
09:41same mind, which makes Tommy's story even stranger.
09:45He's dealing with the same problem as his father, a new body, and old memories.
09:51He's put on a bus headed for a facility called St. Mabins, a heavily guarded psychiatric institution.
09:58That's where he meets Lisa, who is on the bus because she picked the pocket of a police
10:02officer.
10:03The officer on the bus is cruel.
10:05He shocks Tommy with electricity, and that triggers his powers.
10:10Tommy is speed, just like in the comics.
10:13He has the speed of his uncle Quicksilver, and he can vibrate the molecules of an object
10:18so quickly that it destabilizes.
10:21That means he can pass through solid matter.
10:24He accidentally hurts the officer.
10:26Lisa steals the keys, and the two of them escape.
10:29Back in the present, Vision still refuses to believe Tommy is his son.
10:34Then, the show brings in Paladin's background.
10:37Paladin isn't a person.
10:38It's a title handed down through an organization that has produced many Paladins over centuries.
10:44The records list who they've hunted, including a reference to Madripoor, the city from the
10:49Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and even what looks like a werewolf.
10:53Their crest reads about agreements and honor.
10:56And yes, Paladin's costume here is very comic accurate.
11:00Here's the moment that finally convinces Vision.
11:04Tommy says one sentence.
11:05Grief is just love persevering.
11:08That line began with Vision himself in WandaVision when he said it to Wanda.
11:14She later said it to her children after their dog died.
11:17Now, Tommy repeats it to his father.
11:20One idea passed from father to mother to son and back to father.
11:25And it's the moment Vision believes.
11:28One note here.
11:29The source video says this line first appeared in Age of Ultron, but it's actually from WandaVision
11:35episode 8.
11:36Would you have believed him?
11:38So Vision goes to meet Paladin.
11:40He tells him he's already run this conversation through quintillions of simulations, and he
11:45proves it by speaking Paladin's lines at the exact same time.
11:49He claims he doesn't care about Tommy because he's an android.
11:52Paladin answers that witches and monsters exist in this universe, and Vision's witch girlfriend
11:59brought this kid back to life.
12:01He came here, so he does care.
12:03Paladin thinks he's won.
12:05He hasn't.
12:06This isn't the Avengers Vision.
12:08This one is angrier, and he beats Paladin to prove it.
12:12Back home, Ultron says he's proud of him.
12:15Vision snaps, don't say that!
12:17Behind Ultron, a wall of TVs shows different images of Vision, but none of them sink.
12:23A quiet way of showing his identity is fractured.
12:27Ultron tells him it doesn't matter if he's the real Vision.
12:30His son is in danger.
12:32If this video is helping you make sense of Vision Quest, give it a like.
12:36Vision heads to St. Mabins, and Edith warns him that it's a trap.
12:40He walks in anyway, moving so fast that everyone around him seems frozen, almost like Quicksilver.
12:46When Edith tells him the guards are armed, he stops holding back and beats them all.
12:51He finds Tommy in a cell.
12:53Tommy has been seeing Vision in his visions, so he doesn't think this is real.
12:58To calm him down, Vision switches into human form.
13:01Then, the real trap.
13:03An electromagnetic pulse room that shuts Vision down.
13:07Tommy carries him out, only to find Paladin waiting with a shotgun loaded with adamantium rounds.
13:13That's the metal that was stolen in the newspaper headline, and it cuts straight through Vision's vibranium body.
13:20Marvel is quietly telling us, adamantium beats vibranium.
13:24Vision is nearly destroyed.
13:26When Paladin runs out of ammo, he attacks and takes him down.
13:30Vision and Tommy run, but Vision is too damaged to go far.
13:34He tells Tommy to leave him.
13:36Tommy refuses.
13:37He says Vision means something to him, even if he can't say what.
13:41And then comes the cost.
13:43Jarvis deletes himself so his processing power can keep the other AIs alive.
13:48His last words to Vision?
13:50Family is forever.
13:52And Vision calls him brother one last time.
13:55Then, Tommy pulls up in a stolen car, loads Vision inside, and drives them both away.
14:00So, here's what we're left with.
14:02Who is the client?
14:03Some fans think it could be Jocasta, the AI Ultron created in the comics, who later turns on him and
14:10joins the Avengers.
14:11But Marvel hasn't confirmed that, and the show hasn't named the client.
14:16Is Ultron secretly good, or just playing a longer game?
14:20And is Jarvis really gone for good?
14:22And there's one more question hanging over everything.
14:25Wanda.
14:26Vision believes she died under that mountain.
14:29Many fans think otherwise.
14:31Marvel hasn't said.
14:32So, tell me in the comments, who do you think hired Paladin?
14:36And do you think Ultron has a good side?
14:39I read every answer.
14:41That was episodes 1 and 2.
14:43Episodes 3 and 4 are already out, and we'll break them down next.
