00:01There is still a narrow window, although it is getting tighter, for people to turn their
00:07minds to basic actions to prepare their homes. Clearing their gardens, gutters, making sure
00:13drains are unblocked so that rain and water can flow as is appropriate. We do not encourage
00:21South Australians to get up on roofs and clearing their gutters where the weather conditions
00:27prevent it or if people are unable to do so. But if you are ready, willing and able to
00:32make sure your gutters are clear in the coming hours ahead, then that would be a prudent course
00:38of action, making clear that we do not want people compromising their safety in the process
00:43of doing so. We ask people to keep abreast of the alerts issued through the Bureau of Meteorology.
00:52The BOM website is easy to navigate. We would encourage people to be aware of potential
01:00weather warnings that could be issued over the course of the weekend. As it stands, there
01:08isn't an intense weather warning right now, but that may occur across the weekend and people
01:14should be checking and making themselves aware. Similarly with the AlertSA website, which can
01:20identify where events are unfolding, particularly when we contemplate the possibility of flash
01:26flooding. In the event that there is flash flooding in communities, whether it be around creeks
01:32or waterways or even potentially on your own street, we want to make sure people stay safe.
01:38Let's not have kids riding bikes through it as exciting as it may be. Let's not have people
01:44driving motor vehicles through high levels of water, which would be unsafe and not just compromise
01:52your own safety, but then rescue crews that then have to be dispatched to look after you.
01:58So just exercise good judgement and caution. In the event that we do see on Sunday a high-intensity
02:09rain period where we face the prospect of 80 mls of rain in a short window of time, we would
02:16encourage people to avoid unplanned and unnecessary travel.
