A quick explanation of the "5 Focusing Steps" of the Theory Of Constraints.

1) IDENTIFY the system's constraint(s).

2) Decide how to EXPLOIT the system's constraint.

3) SUBORDINATE everything else to the above decision.

4) ELEVATE the system's constraint.

5) WARNING!!!!
If in the previous steps a constraint has been eliminated,
go back to step 1,
but do not allow INERTIA to become the system's constraint.

This is called called the "5 Focusing Steps or ToC's Process Of On-Going Improvement (POOGI).

00:00Once you've decided what to do, there are five focusing steps, which I'll present very quickly.
00:04Have a look at the videos we have that discuss this in further details.
00:07Number one, you find your constraint.
00:09Number two, you exploit it.
00:10That's to say you go immediately to the constraint and make sure and treat it as a VIP resource better
00:15than the others.
00:15And you should be able to get a lot more performance out of it when you do that.
00:19Subordinate to the constraint.
00:20That's to make sure that every decision is taken according to that constraint.
00:25And in particular, that means learning to avoid local optimums and learning to stop working.
00:30Step four, elevate the constraints.
00:32That's to say get even more out of it by eventually investing or hiring people.
00:35Keep going until eventually the bottleneck moves.
00:38Beware of inertia.
00:39And then off we go back into this continuous process of improvement.
